plus: NEW!! Liverpool Anglican Cathedral

Busy day ahead but wanted to share this gorgeous view of Liverpool's three graces from last night. None of them need light enhancement but you gotta admit, it does make them look even more special.

Age appropriate revision for our written exams... In the sunshine at the top of Liverpool Central Library.

Still studying ahead of the regional knowledge exam and came across this gem from a 1907 book - Duke's Dock, Liverpool - the Bridgewater Canal used to be connected to the river Mersey (later Manchester Ship Canal) by a series of locks at Runcorn then to this dock for transhipment & loading. I think these boats are Mersey flats but will stand/sit/lie down corrected...
There's hope that the link from the Bridgewater to the Manchester Ship Canal can be restored in future

A beautiful sunny day for a recce - Went for a walk around Birkenhead today, looking at the coach route for our exam in April 😳
A stately ruin saved by Wirral council. Reopens on 12th February so time for a proper exploration soon.
Birkenhead Priory was established as a Benedictine monastery in the 1150's and was home to no more than 16 monks at a time but they looked after travellers and rowed the ferry boat across to the Lyver Pool, a muddy inlet of the River Mersey which later became the site for the first wet dock in Liverpool.
The priory was closed under the orders of Henry 8th and the monks dispersed. Now it has a museum as well as lovely ruins to explore. Looking forward to paying a visit later in the month.

Two years ago today I walked into Liverpool Anglican Cathedral for the first time ever on a CPD event. Now I'm a guide here! I had no idea of what was to come but I'm glad it did.

Liverpool Cathedral
has been the focus of my day today, guiding school groups and interested visitors.

PS - the ceiling is carved sandstone - a visitor was convinced it was wood.

So pleased to see Liverpool Cathedral where I guide and am an Education Team volunteer featured on the new Royal Mail stamps. A first class stamp for a first class cathedral!

Bubblesque by Atelier Sisu
River of Light - Play - Liverpool 2024.
This installation has been created specifically for the bodies of water around Mann Island. Overflowing onto the land around the water, bubbles fill the area, reminding the audience of a larger-than-life bath tub.
I definitely would like a nice, relaxing bath with musical, multi-coloured bubbles, but not in the river Mersey, thank you.

It was great fun but boy, am I tired!! Carted my bag full of notes and books and didn't use it once. I think I get this guiding thing now... 😳
Train from sunny Eccles to walking tour: Brownlow Hill, Rodney Street, Hope Street, Liverpool Cathedral Grafton Street, Royal Albert Dock, Pier Head and James Street for our train home.

Part of a team that trained around 600 people over 12 hours to perform CPR and use a defibrillator (heart restarter) to save a life. (I was only there for 4 of those hours but ooooh, my knees are protesting!)

A grand morning's guiding, telling the stories of the women of the Bridgewater Canal & estate.
From a five foot feisty feminist, monarchs and a deputy lieutenant to the coal cart pullers and pit brow lasses, we weaved our way through Worsley woods and along the Bridgewater Canal in lovely ☀️

Something very special has come my way from a very good friend who has skills!
This is a model of the crane of curious construction, now seen as a sculpture on the platform at Worsley Delph. Book a tour of Worsley with us and not only do you get exclusive access to the Worsley Delph platform but I will bring the model crane as well.
