The Blessed Grave of Hazrat Hamza along with 70 Shaheeds of Uhud War lies next to Mount Uhud. Known as the “Lion of Allah” he was the uncle of the Prophet Muhammad and a formidable warrior. During the Battle of Uhud in 625 CE he unfortunately met his martyrdom and is remembered and revered by Muslims as helping to shape Islam in its formative years. ̇slam

The ancient Kingdom of Daden dates back to the 1st millennium BC and was once on of the most developed communities in the whole of the Arabian peninsula. The main highlight are the Lion Tombs set up high on the cliff face. Archaeologists are slowly starting to work on uncovering the lower lying land and have already uncovered various buildings and statues 🇸🇦

Hegra’s largest tomb, 72 feet tall is thought to be the Tomb of Lihyan Son of Kuza, known locally as Qasr al-Farid (the lonely castle) due to its remote location away from any other tombs. The tomb is unfinished and only shallow inside, due to financial constraints 🇸🇦

Qishlah Palace lies in the centre of Ha’il and was built in the 1940’s as a military barracks, weapons store and prison. It extends over 20,000sqm and consists of mud structures over two floors with over 140 rooms 🇸🇦

The date market - it’s out of season so there were only a handful of sellers but at prime harvest time the giant car parks are jam packed with 1,000’s of open backed vans and individual farmers selling their product. Never knew there were so many date varieties either - the chocolate variety were lovely. The red and yellow dates are new ones harvested either this morning or over the weekend 🇸🇦

As well as camels, the range of sheep and goats was mindblowing! I’ve honestly never seen so many different breeds that all looked so different. There were breeds here from all over the Middle East, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iran, Iraq etc and we met the Major of the Sheep section who took us around. The little lambs you see are literally between 1 and 4 days old 😍 🐐

The weird and the wonderful can be seem at a couple of the museums at Ushaiger Heritage Village - from 800 year old coins to jackels riding a bike! Such an eclectic mix was a lot of fun to view. The official Hamad Al-Salim Heritage Museum has entertained royalty from both Saudi Arabia to Qatar and contains over 4,000 items!

Interesting tour around Ushaiger Heritage Village. The Bedouins first settled here 1,500 years ago as it was a popular stop for pilgrims travelling to Mecca. The extensive area is now a living museum with a small community who live on site in the maze like houses adorned with beautiful white shuraf (embellishments) on top of each building and intriguing small triangular windows 🇸🇦

Great local dinner this evening - beautiful surroundings with traditional seating, painted doors and windows, stunning internal garden area and so much food - camel, lamb, chicken, three different types of local bread, chopped tomato and onion salad, rice/milk dish with onions, spicy tomato relish to top your rice 🇸🇦
