As a small domestic abuse charity, we receive at least one phone call a day to help those who dont know what to do with their situation.

Dial 55
What happens when you cant talk and dial 55, you will hear an automated police message, which lasts for 20 seconds and begins with "you are through to the police". It will ask you to press 55 to be put through to police call management. The operator will still be listening in, if you press 55 they will be notified and transfer the call to the police.

How to make a 999 call to the police if you're in danger and can't talk on the phone.

On Monday 30th, the office was closed yet our staff and volunteers and volunteer driver went to help a family with little furniture and a cry for help. We couldn't start the van as it has been sitting in the cold but we rang the AA and jumped start the engine after an hour the van was all roaring and ready to go. We picked up the sofa, delivered it and brought food parcels, and presents for the 3 children and nappies. This is the heart of the River, amazing volunteers and staff willing to go the extra mile for a need. Thank you to all volunteers who step into the scene throughout the year, doing various tasks and giving their heart and time and nothing is a deterrent. Not the cold, not the engine trouble, not when it's our day off too.

Happy new year to one and all. The year starts with a promise, "With God on our side, who can be against us." Romans 8:31

Take courage, He will be our strong deliverer. May He continue to enable us to do amazing feats of kindness and bring strength to the weary.

Last minute pick up for 2 pallets of in date food from Openshaw at 6pm. Just done and delivered to a 38 room women's refuge in Tameside, and 2 men's supported accommodation in the local area.

Feeling good that food is given to those who are hungry and less waste going to landfills! There was all sorts, pasties, sausages, green chicken curry, Mediterranean salad, salmon, chicken pie, assorted veg, honey mustard parsnips, roast potatoes, sandwiches,
Tuck in and have a blessed Christmas!
Peace on all men.

On Wednesday, we approached the last day of 16 days of action by holding a candle light prayer gathering to remember all those who lost their lives at the hands of their perpetrator. May they rest in peace.

Please take that sign down! The building is officially ours!

The title deed is ours!
As of 4pm yesterday, we were told that the contract was exchanged between seller and ourselves! It was an amazing jaw breaking moment as we held our breath the last couple of weeks to finally overcome every hurdle to purchase this building. We did it and with your amazing help and His provision through you all!

We have raised £37,700 as of today and just the last £2,300 to go before we reach the target. We had to close the project early as we had to wait 9 days for the crowdfunder money to be deposited in our bank. On 9th December, 2024, we have now paid every penny that we could scrape from our reserves and have now paid the seller in full! We had to take a mortgage out at the same time to compensate for the shortfall in financing the purchase. So thank you every one for your faith in us, your comments made us smile and encouraged!

The crowdfunder platform is still open for donations, thank God, and is still match funded up to £250.00 so please tell your friends and family to donate, that would be great. If this is the last charitable donation you could do this year, think of us.

We are still rejoicing over this good news and yesterday when we helped a mum and her 2 children who escaped from their house set on fire by her partner, made homeless, she's rehoused in an empty property, we were able to donate food parcels, shoes and clothing, a settee, dining table and chairs, toaster and kettle and Christmas presents for the kids. It is for this reason we are here today able to help people like her who have gone through a traumatic time and being able to respond when the support worker made a referral for her. Together with your help, we have a home now that we can continue this work and help many more like her in the years to come. So thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Day 16 - 16 days of action
Today we helped a woman and her 2 children whose husband burnt down their home and they lost everything..they've been rehoused and we gifted them a leather sofa, dining table and chairs, bedside cabinets, toaster and kettle, clothes, food, coffee table and a mirror. Another 5 minutes and they would have been in the house. How lucky they are to have escaped. Let's remember all the women and children who have died at the hands of perpetrators...people who were supposed to love them. Rip

You can also be part of taking positive action by donating your furniture and money or even saying a prayer for this lady and the many others we help daily. Thank you.

Day 13 - 16 days of action
Keep a close eye on your children, especially when they are online, and make sure that they have the appropriate safety settings in place. Always know where your children are going and with whom. 360 app is a good way to know where your children are at all times. If you suspect your children are being secretive, don't ignore your gut, investigate more.
