This morning, we were lucky enough to witness a pod of at least six common dolphins putting on an incredible feeding show just outside the harbour. They spent around 20 minutes fishing before continuing their journey westward.

What a magical way to start the week! 🐬

The island may be closed until January 27th, but there's lots of work happening behind the scenes to get each area of the island ready to welcome visitors in 2025.

This week, the retail team is busy bringing a fresh look to the Mount Shop by treating the walls to a new coat of paint. Plus, they are scanning new stock, completing annual stocktakes, and designing new displays for the Island Shop.

We will also be working with lots of new designers to create exclusive new products that can only be found on St Michael's Mount.

Next week we'll take a look behind the scenes at what the gardening team are getting up to in the winter months...

The St Michael, better known as the amphi, is an amphibious vehicle that is as happy on land as it is on water. It can be spotted making light work of the half-mile journey through the waves from St Michael’s Mount to Marazion Beach when the tide covers the causeway in the winter.

Originally built in Falmouth and launched in 2003, the versatile twin-engine amphibious vehicle measures 11.5 metres in length and has a beam (width) of 4.7 metres. It can carry 38 passengers or up to 1,000kg of cargo.

It provides a transport lifeline to the 30+ residents of St Michael’s Mount during the winter months when the smaller ferry boats are unable to run. It transports the residents and staff to and from the Mount, including taking the island children to school and brings provisions from the mainland.

Tonight, the Mount will glow gold and fall into darkness as we remember those we lost in the Penlee Lifeboat disaster. 💛

On December 19, 1981, tragedy unfolded off the Cornish coast. The Penlee lifeboat Solomon Browne answered a distress call from the Union Star, which had lost engine power in fierce seas. In their courageous attempt to save lives, both the lifeboat and the Union Star were lost, claiming 16 lives, including the eight selfless volunteers of the Solomon Browne:

Coxswain Trevelyan Richards, 56
Mechanic Stephen Madron, 35
Assistant Mechanic Nigel Brockman, 43
Crewman John Blewett, 43
Charlie Greenhaugh, 46
Barrie Torrie, 33
Kevin Smith, 23
Gary Wallis, 22

To honour their heroism, the lights will be switched off between 8pm-9pm. Let us pause to reflect on this solemn anniversary and the extraordinary bravery of those who gave their lives to save others.

Our Christmas Tree Trail is open again Sunday-Friday🎄

For those of you who haven't ventured over to the island yet this festive season, there is a collection of Christmas trees with a unique twist at St Michael’s Mount.

This year, the teams have been hard at work creating one-of-a-kind Christmas trees using recycled materials found across St Aubyn Estates. Each tree reflects the spirit of the department that made it, featuring items that represent their daily work.

When you arrive on the island, our guides will be handing out leaflets to help visitors to discover the inspiration behind each design. Take a magical stroll through the village to find all nine trees displayed in unique spots, from the Barge House to the Island Café.

Don’t miss the additional trees lighting up the mainland - beautifully displayed in the Estate Office windows in the short stay car park.🎄
