Ever wondered what it is like to be one of our wonderful boatmen? Here's a behind the scenes look at what it looks like to go back and forth from mainland to the island when the boats are running ⛵️
A big thank you to our boatman Rob who captured this great footage during a busy day on the water 🌊

Have you seen the stained glass windows in the Chevy Chase room in the castle? The fragments of stained glass in the windows are primarily of Flemish origin, created at different times, and are of high quality. Initially purchased for the chapel by the fifth baronet, they were subsequently relocated to the Chevy Chase room 🔍

Once again, recent stormy seas have filled in the channel to our Chapel Rock boat landing with sand, and so the ferry boats will not be able to operate towards the end of the day on Thursday 02 May. We have therefore had to take the difficult decision to close the entire island at 15:45.
If you have a ticket booked for Thursday after 14:35, please arrive earlier if you can, or on any other day that we are open this week. You do not need to rebook but can turn up and use your existing tickets.
Last admissions to the Castle and Garden tomorrow will be at 14:45.
We are sorry if this means you cannot visit. Any tickets scheduled between 14:45-15:45 that are not used will be refunded in full automatically at the end of the week and we expect monies to be returned to the accounts from which payments were made within 5-7 business days.
We are a tidal island that is governed by the forces of nature and sometimes those elements work against us.
We hope to be able to welcome you onto St Michael’s Mount soon.
Warmest wishes,
The St Michael’s Mount team
It’s a beautiful day to open up the gardens to visitors for the first time this year.
The private gardens on St Michael’s Mount were built in 1887 for a family of 11 at the time. Last year, just shy of 150,000 visitors were welcomed into the terraces to admire this unique and fragile oasis, clinging to the rock face.
For tickets see 🔗 in bio.
National Trust members can access the gardens for free, but must book a ticket online and in advance.
Assistance dogs only please.
The garden is open Monday-Friday between 09:45 and 15:45.
The sea condition is much rougher today than forecast and so the ferry boats will not be able to operate for the public (30/04/2024). We are also not confident that the causeway will be uncovered by the sea later, and so sadly we cannot open St Michael’s Mount today (30/04/2024).
If you have a ticket booked for today, you can use your ticket for any other day that we are open this week. You do not need to rebook but can turn up and use your existing tickets.

The perfect day for a ferry boat to the island…
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT TUESDAY 9th APRIL: ISLAND OPEN WHEN THE CAUSEWAY IS OPEN BETWEEN 10:30 - 14:15
The high winds have resulted in very poor sea conditions, and sadly, the ferry boats are not able to operate to access St Michael’s Mount tomorrow (09/04/2024).
The island and castle will, however, be open while the causeway is not covered by the sea (10:30-14:15). Between these times, it will be possible to walk to the island and to walk back to the mainland.
The last admissions to the Castle will be at 13:00.
If you are able to arrive while we are open, you do not need to rebook but can turn up and use your existing tickets.
Any tickets that are not used will be refunded in full, and we expect monies to be returned to the accounts from which payments were made within 5-7 business days.
We are a tidal island that is governed by the forces of nature, and sometimes those elements work against us. Poor sea conditions mean that public safety on the water may be compromised, and as your safety is our priority, we must take steps to mitigate any risks.
We know that this will be very disappointing for those of you who have been looking forward to visiting St Michael’s Mount. We hope to be able to welcome you to St Michael’s Mount soon.
Warmest wishes,
The St Michael’s Mount team
