This Christmas, we're asking you to give to Pedal Power, our bike appeal. 🚲 🙏

And here's why we're doing it: as a child, one of our young people longed to ride a bike - just like her brothers. But she was told it wasn’t “right” for girls in her culture. Life then took her across the world to the UK, where she found support from KRAN. She was given a bike and cycling lessons:

“I still remember the day I first held the handlebars, the feeling of the pedals under my feet. It was a strange mix of excitement and fear. As I wobbled and swayed, trying to balance, I felt like that little girl again - only this time, I wasn’t watching. I was doing it.” 💛

Humbled by these fellow pilgrims! Bret is in his 60's (back right) had been walking for 75 days, all the way from Canterbury, over 900 miles 🌟 Steve (back left) had previously cycled around the world for a year 🌟 Romain was on his way to Rome by foot from his hometown in France, before starting to study as a chef and opening his own resteraunt 🌟

Cycling is so important for our young people on many levels - and they feel the same emotions too (and more).

This December, we're launching Pedal Power: KRAN's Christmas Bike Appeal and would really appreciate your support.

👉Hear how the helped Margate mum Grace & son Lennon discover a new activity to enjoy together that’s not only helping keep body & mind in shape, but has also given Lennon the skills & confidence to cycle to school on his own.

Grace and Lennon joined a number of free cycling events organised by Thanet District Council delivered by local champions Col's Kent Bike Tours The Bike Shed Kent & Ride Margate.

Mum Grace tells how since cycling with Lennon over the summer she now has the confidence to let him go off on his own freeing up her time and saving a daily car journey before work.

“𝑳𝒆𝒏𝒏𝒐𝒏 𝒄𝒚𝒄𝒍𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒍 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒌 𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆!”

But it’s not just Lennon that’s benefitted from attending the sessions, it has helped Grace keep fit plus she has more freedom now her son is happy getting out and about with Ride Leaders Jilly & Colin. And then there was the unexpected joy at discovering ‘Cycle Del Mar’ a disco-style sunset bike ride:

The Big Bike Revival is Funded by Government to help remove barriers to cycling and encourage more people to start cycling or rediscover a love of cycling and the many benefits it can bring.

Our 2023-4 the program reached 110,781 people across England with 84% of participants surveyed reporting they feel safer when cycling, 90% feel happier and 62% with improved physical wellbeing.

Big thanks (and good luck) to KRAN supporter Karl, who is taking part in the Beachy Head marathon for us - his first! 🏃

As well as training for the run on 27 October, he's also a new dad - his first! 👶

Karl, of Folkestone, says: "In light of the summer's 'protests' and disgusting hate rhetoric being peddled in the UK, I'd like to fundraise and offer some support to a brilliant cause."

He aims to raise enough money for four refurbished secondhand bikes, helmets, locks and cycle safety training - all so important for our young people.
