Although I have driven many electric cars, until this week I had never ridden an electric bike.

Andrew Talbot one of the executive directors of Great British Car Journey has set up a business hiring out these machines which are equipped with Sat navs and pre-programmed routes.

I took to the lanes around Ambergate and thought it was brilliant! You still have to do some work but hills are no longer to be feared and as a result of the electric assistance, it’s possible to cover much longer distances than on a conventional bike. We were out for about an hour and easily covered ten miles on the hilly lanes on the far side of the Derwent.
