Revive The Clyde

Revive The Clyde Sign our Clyde Charter to help encourage the government to manage the Firth of Clyde fishery sustainably Revive the Firth of Clyde marine environment.

2.

We need your support for our campaign to revive the Firth of Clyde fishery using the following key principles;

1. Support a diverse fishery, boosting jobs and the local economy.

3. Promote fisheries management based on local input and scientific advice. The Firth of Clyde covers 3700km2 of inland sea, bounded by Ayrshire in the east, Kintyre in the west, the Irish Sea to the south and the Argyll

sea lochs in the north. It has suffered serious economic and environmental losses since bottom towed fishing gears were allowed into its close inshore waters in the 1960s. The Clyde’s once-great commercial fin-fisheries for herring cod and flat fish have collapsed, with takes down by around 95%, and its world class recreational sea angling has all but disappeared. The Clyde fishery is now ‘a fishery of last resort’, with industry forced to focus on scallops and prawns. The revival of the Clyde will bring many benefits to local communities such as;

• A Resilient commercial fishery because of diversity
• Increased availability of local, high quality seafood
• A revived Recreational Sea Angling sector re-establishing itself as a n national RSA destination, increase in large trophy-sized fish and supporting a diverse range of businesses
• Restoration of wider biodiversity with benefits to wildlife tourism

Are Scotland's inshore fisheries being left behind in comparison to the English IFCAs . Or do you have examples where Scotland is leading on the sustainable management of our inshore waters?

🦞A Reminder To Fishers 🦞

A person must not remove, take, retain, store, carry, transport or land any berried lobster. Any berried lobster shall be returned immediately to the sea in a position as near as possible to that part of the sea from which it was taken.

A boat was inspected today that was found to be storing 7 Egg Bearing lobsters in a basket that were suspended in the water. All the lobsters were V-Notched and returned to the fishery alive. This will be reported to the Chief Fisheries Officer and dealt with accordingly.
