We’ve decided to close this page and amalgamate with our farm page Burton Lazars Farms - don’t worry Drift View itself isn’t going anywhere!!

Social media is hard work and we’ve been finding ourselves spending too much time on our phones and not enough time with our children or out on farm.

How it started vs how it’s going!

We are fast approaching our one year anniversary of welcoming our first ever guests staying in the hut 🥰

We are very much farmers so we really had minimal experience when we first started but a year on we’re getting there (still learning)! We’ve been so thrilled with the reviews and the comments so hopefully that means we’re doing something right 😅

Drilling is in full swing here on the farm. We are planting winter wheat which will hopefully be harvested next Autumn - and so the cycle begins again!

Who else is a lover of all things Autumn?!🙋🏻‍♀️

We’ve been waiting all summer for an excuse to get cosy, pull out the knitwear and the hot chocolate ☕️ We’ve got great availability for short breaks in October.

Here’s our sheepdog Joe helping with changeovers 🥰

Drift View is dog friendly so you can bring your four legged friend along for the adventure. We are blessed with some stunning walks in the area and plenty of dog friendly pubs so they can enjoy the sights (and smells) too 🐕

So the children want to go camping but the grown ups - not so much 😂

You are more than welcome to bring a tent with you for older children.

Grown ups get a bit of luxury whilst the kids have their own mini adventure. They can even help us to feed the farm animals 🐄

🌾 🐑 Down on the farm 🐑 🌾

We have just finished lambing here on the farm so you might be able to spot some of our cheeky new arrivals from the shepherds hut. We keep Herdwick sheep which you normally find high in the fells of the Lake District but we snuck a few down to Leicestershire. We will be shearing in the next few weeks so the ladies will be ready for summer 😎

🌾 🐄 Down on the farm 🐄 🌾

Time to introduce our beef herd!

During the summer months you’ll find them grazing down on the floodplain which runs along the River Eye. A unique habitat, shaped by regular flooding and protected by low stocking rates and no artificial inputs.

Then, when it starts to get too wet in winter everyone comes back to the yard where they can feast on an all you can eat buffet of silage (preserved grass) made on the farm in the warmth of a cosy shed!

We know the idea of trekking out into the wilderness for a shower isn’t everyone’s cup of tea 🥶

That’s why we’ve given the traditional shepherds hut an upgrade by creating its own bathroom, complete with electric shower!

So you can get that rustic, back to nature vibe but without the cold feet!

🌾 🐄 Down on the farm 🐄 🌾

Drift View is situated on our family farm here in Leicestershire. We have farmed here for over 30 years, growing a variety of crops and keeping beef cattle and sheep.

Soil conservation is really important to us so we farm a bit differently! We try not to disturb the soil to protect the creatures that live in it, preserving the stubbles after harvest as a habitat for wildlife and preventing erosion over the winter months. We also rotate our livestock around the farm to add vital fertility back to the ground.

We’ll post about what we are up to on the farm and introduce some of the animals you might come across during your stay!
