Great to see the new TfW train Carew Castle Express unveiled at Carmarthen station with services right through to Milford Haven by year end. Well done TfW and Welsh Government for this investment and Welsh built trains. A great advance for visitors (especially history lovers), with significant design improvement for the disabled and their carers, Tudor history in the West is within easier reach.

It’s August 1485 Henry Tudor’s two army cohorts are still on the March from their Pembrokeshire start points. Henry’s own army travel via Cardigan to their rendezvous point at Long Mountain Welshpool 142 miles approximately. Sir Rhys ap Thomas goes via Llandeilo approximately 138 miles. That is serious trudging. Join us on the Rise of the Tudors Day Tour

Did you know that the nursery rhyme “Sing. a Song a Sixpence” May have come from Henry VII’s reign. I didn’t. According to historian Aimee Fleming it did. That ‘fiscal prudence’ is traditionally what Henry is most known for. It inspired the children’s rhyme ‘Sing a Song of Sixpence’. He was renown for his avarice which was oft commented upon by contemporaries: ‘But in his later days, all these virtues were obscured by avarice, from which he traditionally best known.

It's 1485 and August 7th. Henry Tudor returned to the county of his birth Pembrokeshire in what was a "do or die" attempt to capture the throne of England (and Wales) from Plantagenet King Richard III.

After landing at Mill Bay Henry Tudor hot footed his men to the first town he reached Haverfordwest and forded the River Cleddau on the Old Bridge. Despitethe danger from Richard III Henry would have been delighted with the local support and headed North knowing that both Jasper Tudor and Sir Rhys ap Thomas of Carew we’re coming to join him.

today in 1485 August 7th Henry Tudor returned to the county of his birth Pembrokeshire. Landing at Mill Bay near modern day Dale and St Anne’s Head 💡 Lighthouse. Secrecy was clearly top priority landing at a rough beach by local standards at the end of a steep sided valley. They could have chosen from a myriad of wider, open beaches. But Mill Bay was a great place to land unseen, had a great water supply and meant horses and men could be safely disembarked after a long sea passage from France 🇫🇷. I hope to row to Mill Bay with Dale Rowing 🚣 Club this summer, we went up to Mulloch Bridge last Friday. #007
