📍 Blakeley Raise Stone Circle
Cumbria is home to countless ancient stone circles, each with its own unique charm. This is Blakeley Raise, also known as Kinniside Stone Circle, near Ennerdale Bridge. Though small in size - just 15 metres in diameter - and whilst being a modern age replica (not original), the circle offers a peaceful, timeless atmosphere surrounded by moorland and open hills. On clear days, the open views stretch as far as the Isle of Man.
Whether you're a history enthusiast or simply love exploring the natural beauty, Cumbria has something to offer to everyone.😊

Happy New Year!🎉 Wish you 2025 will be full of joy and happiness!✨

One of the first hikes for us to kick start 2025 was climbing up the Harter Fell, which locates at the end of Eskdale valley and in front of the Hardknott Pass. It was cold and occasionally a little wet, but the view of the surrounding area including the Scafell mountain range was stunning!⛰️

Whether you're seeking tranquillity or an adrenaline rush, the Lake District is the perfect destination for all. For mountain biking enthusiasts🚵‍♂️, there are plenty of great trails to explore - including Black Combe⛰ right on our doorstep!

After a day of muddy adventures, our guests can make use of the convenient tap with a sprayer in the car park to clean their gear before safely storing it in the enclosed cottage garden.

The cold spell should not stop outdoor adventures either😉; this photo was taken in November. Ready to experience the best of the outdoors?

This beautiful oak staircase was crafted and installed by local joinery, Fellview Joinery in Barrow-in-Furness. After seeing their beautiful work done for The Wayside and Whisky Barn, we knew we wanted the same quality craftsmanship for the cottage - and the results speak for themselves!

October has been full of joyful celebrations at Wayside Cottage 1637! 🎉 We were thrilled to host at least two groups (that we know of 😉) celebrating special birthdays, including this lovely group gathered to mark Chaz’s 30th! 🎂

With both Wayside Cottage 1637 and The Wayside and Whisky Barn all to themselves, they enjoyed every on-site amenity—from scenic local walks to a private whisky tasting experience.

It was truly a pleasure to see so many smiles and to be part of their unforgettable memories. 😊

Pop into the cosy bar next door during your stay in the cottage!🥃🍺🍷😊

This photo shows one corner of Whisky Barn, our bar. Combined with the slightly low ceiling, this room has an inviting homely vibe, with tables thoughtfully separated by dividers reminiscent of the charm found in old farm barn buildings - one of which this building used to be in old days.

These dividers not only add a touch of rustic feel but also create an intimate and cosy ambiance at each table. Whether you're enjoying a drink or evening meals, our bar offers a warm and welcoming environment to everyone.

We love our local beach. It is beautiful under any weather at any tide. But when the clouds break to reveal the deep blue sky above us and the sun shines over our foot prints👣🐾 on the pristine sandy beach, it just feels amazing to have this wonderful place only to ourselves.
