Yoga with Miranda Taylor is back! Our new term starts on Tuesday 10th September and runs until 22nd October. Yoga in the threshing barn at Emmetts is a relaxed community evening of yoga followed by a delicious light vegetarian supper. All very welcome - beginners and experienced yogis alike!

‘How to find stillness within’ - An evening with Colin Dunsmuir. Friday 27th September. The next in The Curious Curator’s series of curious conversations.

Colin will talk about practical tools for mental health and will discuss everything from anxiety to insomnia, anger and depression and offer simple tools for you to consider.

Colin Dunsmuir True Yoga is based on Exmoor and is a leading voice in the global yoga community, with 25 years of study behind him. Colin is the author of his recently released book “How To Find Stillness Within,” published by Penguin Books.

Colin works 1-2-1 with high profile clients, is the director of the London Yoga Festival, and sits on the Professional Specific Board for Yoga Therapy with the Complimentary Natural Health Care Council (CNHC). He is also working with the NHS to bring yoga into traditional medical treatment.

A Saturday night triumph in the threshing barn at Emmetts - chef George Irvine cooked up a storm on his Fire Made barbecue with fabulous Fellingscott Farm chickens - ‘the best breasts in the west’! Colleen is an international level Grand Prix rider, has trained to FEI Grand Prix level and currently has students competing to Inter I. She teaches clinics around the UK and in the USA, is a Pony Club certified coach, BDCC Level 2 coach, BD trainee judge and certified judge in the USA.

The Gaucho Derby, known as the world’s toughest horse race, takes place in the wind-swept and isolating landscape of Argentinian Patagonia. A self navigated and self supported 750km journey of survival by horse and on foot, across what must be one of the world’s most brutal terrains.

Earlier this year, Fiona Castle was one of only 29 riders to complete this intense mental and physical experience, which she puts down to innate stubbornness and the incredibly tough Criollo horses with which she shared her journey.

Food Curiosity brings you a feast cooked by George Irvine using delicious local ingredients including fabulous chickens!

Saturday 17th August in the Threshing Barn in the Threshing Barn at Emmetts on Exmoor.

Max Pitman & Moss Tilley are raising chickens at Fellingscott Farm in Brendon. Rain or shine these chickens are raised outside on Exmoor pasture. With this constant access to fresh pasture and fresh air these chickens really will the ‘the best breasts in the west’. This evening will give you a taste of how good they are and we hope that you will go on to order some for your own freezer.

We are all so excited to be hosting this exciting evening with Louise Exmoor Farmher. We couldn’t resist the opportunity to collaborate with Louise following her extraordinary success on this years Masterchef - a great fit with our Food Curiosity evenings.

Louise lives and farms on Exmoor (one of our neighbours!) with her husband and young daughter. She recently won a coveted place in the final of BBCs Masterchef, where she wowed the judges and chefs such as Pierre Koffman and Monica Galetti with her food.

Louise has worked with several Michelin starred chefs including Michel Roux Jr, Niklas Ekstadt and Malcolm Lee.

She is passionate about championing British produce and believes in cooking with true seasonality. Her food has been described as ‘bold and daring’, ‘precise and full of flavour’, and ‘the best of British’.

Homeware painting workshop with Kirsty Erskine Hill - Thursday 18th July in the Threshing Barn at Emmetts!

Join Kirsty for a step by step homeware painting workshop - you will create and take home a unique, hand painted piece whilst unwinding from daily life. Art is a marvellous therapy! You can choose either a scalloped ottoman tray or a waste paper bin from the dropdown list in the booking system.

A making kit which includes all materials and your chosen piece of homeware will be provided as well as a delicious lunch and refreshments throughout the day.

We had an absolutely fantastic evening in the threshing barn at Emmett’s last weekend! We were hosting a ‘big’ birthday party for a very special local lady. George Irvine created a delicious menu of local venison, lamb cooked on the Fire Made barbecue with roasted garlic potatoes and ratatouille, followed by homemade pistachio ice cream and a fab local cheese board. Disco dancing to the best of the 80s followed…!

How to Use Adventure for Wellbeing - An Evening with Belinda Kirk .
Thursday 13th June 2024, 6.30 – 8.30pm: Talk, Drinks & Canapés in the Threshing Barn at Emmetts. The latest in an excellent series of talks curated by The Curious Curator.

Belinda Kirk is a world-record holding explorer, researcher and the leading campaigner promoting the benefits of adventure on wellbeing and mental health.

Over the last 30 years she has led dozens of international expeditions, numerous youth development challenges and pioneered inclusive adventures for people with disabilities. Most recently she has faced her greatest challenge: to continue to live adventurously once she had become a parent.

She’s written the best-selling, award-nominated, book Adventure Mind: Transform Your Wellbeing By Choosing Challenge. Drawing on lessons learnt from leading groups into the wilderness and the latest findings in neuroscience and psychology, Belinda shows how adventure has the power to transform the timid into the confident, the addicted into the recovering, and the lost into the intentionally wandering.

MONDAY MEDITATION - 8:30am yoga session - breathing, stretching and breakfast to go. Start the week right with some gentle breathing and stretching exercises to clear the mind.

Each class finishes with a light breakfast of fruit salad, granola snack bars, tea and coffee.

‘Drawing the Horse’ with Rachel Campbell-Johnston and George Irvine - Friday 19th April.

George Stubbs is going to be a focal point to what promises to be an informative, creative and fast-moving day in which you will experience fresh ways to conjure impressions of movement, volume and space. The day will start with a talk from Rachel Campbell-Johnston on the life and art of George Stubbs, the 18th century painter whose anatomical knowledge of the horse was unrivalled but whose equine portraits have a grace and lyricism – and sometimes a ferocity – that lift them beyond mere fact. This will lead nicely on to the practical, taught by George Irvine, in which you will be encouraged to try out an imaginative variety of approaches and techniques.

Rachel Campbell-Johnston is a freelance art critic. She was previously The Times’s chief art critic for 20 years.

George Irvine is a contemporary Artist who works and lives on Exmoor. He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL and later taught Art at Stowe School, Buckingham for 12 years. George and his wife, Victoria, ran Buttermilk Art School before moving to Exmoor.

Friday 15th March - our next Food Curiosity Evening, with visitors in the kitchen! A baker and a cook live in the Heddon Valley and are passionate about seasonal, local and simply prepared food. They have designed a menu which includes home cured charcuterie and handmade bread and pasta alongside seasonal produce from small farms.

We’re all thoroughly over excited about this one and there are just 30 places at this very special table.
