Pronounced ‘Deethe go-il Dew-ee hap-ees’

✝️Dewi Sant, or St. David, is the Patron Saint of Wales. To honour his achievements, and Wales as a whole, March 1st has been a day of celebration since the 12th Century and is traditionally known as the ‘Feast Day of Saint David’

📣His last known words to his followers were “Be joyful, keep the faith, and do the little things that you have heard and seen me do”
The phrase ‘Gwnewch y pethau bychain mewn bywyd’ – ‘Do the little things in life’ is still a well known saying in Wales.

🌼Many people mark the day by wearing a leek or a daffodil, the national emblems of Wales. The Daffodil, believed to closely resemble the Leek flower, has since become the National flower of Wales.

❤️ Dydd Santes Dwynwen Hapus ❤️
On the 25th January every year we celebrate St Dwynwen - the Welsh Patron Saint of Lovers - Wales' very own version of St. Valentine's Day.
How did St Dwynwen become the Welsh patron saint of lovers?
Dwynwen was believed to be the prettiest of King Brychan Brycheiniog's 24 daughters. She fell in love with a local lad called Maelon Dafodrill, but King Brychan had already arranged for her to marry another prince. Maelon took the news badly, so the distraught Dwynwen fled to the woods to weep, and begged God to help her. She was visited by an angel who gave her a sweet potion to help her forget Maelon, which happened to turn him into a block of ice. God then granted Dwynwen three wishes. Her first wish was that Maelon be thawed; her second wish was for God to help all true lovers; her third wish was that she would never marry. In gratitude, Dwynwen became a nun and set up a convent on Llanddwyn Island, a beautiful little spot on Anglesey. Her name means, 'she who leads a blessed life'.
Incidentally, as well as being the Welsh patron saint of lovers, she's also the patron saint of sick animals.
The day is similar to Valentine’s Day, where cards and gifts are exchanged and valuable time is spent with loved ones. Traditionally, a Welsh love spoon is given as a St Dwynwen’s day gift.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿Caernarfonshire (Sir Gaernarfon)’s day occurs on the date of Owain Gwynedd’s death, as his birth date is unknown.
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿Owain was the first ‘Prince of Wales’ and considered the most successful of the North Welsh princes prior to Llywelyn the Great.

🤩Caernarfon is a fantastic day out and only a 40 minute journey from our properties.

This Sunday, 26th November our volunteer crew will have the opportunity to once again exercise with the Caernarfon-based HM Coastguard Helicopter. We will be able to rehearse some of the drills needed in lifesaving operations and rescues.

Kiwi our all-weather lifeboat, will launch at 9:am, with the helicopter on scene at approximately 09:30.
