Moffat is the ideal hub for a holiday in the south of Scotland, so there are plenty of suggestions for places to visit if you are staying for a few days.
Within easy driving distances of the town, there are St Mary's Loch, Megget and Talla Reservoirs and the famous Devil's Beef Tub (known as the Three Lochs Run, even though two of them are reservoirs); Craigieburn Garden and Nurseries (less than 10 minutes’ drive); the Grey Mare's Tail (just over 20 minutes); Traquair – the oldest inhabited house in Scotland (under an hour); Abbotsford - home of Sir Walter Scott (just over an hour); Melrose Abbey (just over an hour); Dawyck Botanical Gardens (around 40 minutes); Rosslyn Chapel (just over an hour); Wanlockhead - the highest village in Scotland - and its mining Museum (about 35 minutes); Drumlanrig Castle (around 45 minutes); Castle Loch and Lochmaben Castle (less than 30 minutes); the very moving Lockerbie Garden of Remembrance and Air Disaster Memorial (just over 20 minutes); Dumfries and many memories of Robbie Burns (about 35 minutes); the Dumfries Air Museum (about 30 minutes); Dalscone Farm and Indoor Soft Play Centre, Dumfries (about 30 minutes); Kagyu Samye Ling Tibetan Buddhist Monastery & Centre for World Peace and Health (about 35 minutes); The Devil's Porridge Museum (about 35 minutes); Caerlaverock Castle (less than an hour); the beaches of Costa Colvend – the Secret Coast (about an hour); and, of course, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
