Loch Morar Self Catering

Loch Morar Self Catering Self catering accommodation on the north shore of Loch Morar in the West Highlands of Scotland. We are located on the north shore at Bracara.

We are located on the West Coast of Scotland near the port of Mallaig on the beautiful Loch Morar, this unique loch is the deepest body of freshwater in the British Isles at 310m and is 11.7 miles long. We have a small croft with mainly Hebridean sheep, chickens and ducks. Our two self catering properties both sleep two people and offer a quite get away for two. The Byres is the old converted cro

ft house situated prominently overlooking the loch. It has spacious modern accommodation for two with a picture window with views of the Loch, super kings sized bed or twin on request, separate kitchen and shower room. The perfect romantic hideaway, simply relax and enjoy the view or explore the wonders of the local area including the Small Isles, Knoydart and Ardnamurchan. The Wee Lodge is our glamping pod, a small but perfectly formed step up from camping or alternatively, an on-suite room with a view and small kitchen. Sit on the decking and enjoy the view with sheep grazing nearby and ducks playing in the stream.

Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo)
Resident at Bracara all year round, this attractive bird of prey is regularly seen patrolling the skies above the croft. They have a wingspan of between 113-128cm so considerable smaller than the Eagles but impressive none the less.

Just beyond Arisaig, the Rhu Peninsular stretches out past the Arisaig Skerries towards the Small Isles and Ardnamurchan. A lovely country drive along a single track road eventually ends in a small car park. From here you can undertake a lovely walk out to Port Nam Murrach a gorgeous little beach with amazing views. Ideal for a spot of wild swimming or a wee paddle

https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/fortwilliam/port-na-murrach.shtml

On this particular trip I was also excited to spot Lesser Redpoll, Yellowhammer, Common Terns and Gannets as well as the resident Belted Galloway Cattle.

Had a fabulous day trip with Arisaig Marine on Sunday. Loch Courisk and the Black Cullins from Arisaig on MV Sheerwater. It’s the most beautiful loch to visit surrounded by the towering Black Cullins, and a real treat to get there by 2 hour boat crossing from Arisaig. Sightings of Dolphins, Great Skua, Gannet, Common Tern and Manx Sheerwater as well as Black Guillemot and Common Seals around the Skerries at Arisaig. Although this was a limited event by Arisaig Marine you can get to see Loch Courisk during your stay by driving over to Elgol on Skye and heading out with Bella Jane Boat Trips who do regular boat trips to Loch Courisk from Elgol through out the season.

A walk along the Rhu Peninsula from Arisaig always offers up some interesting wildlife. Seals and birds aplenty. This particular trip included lovely sightings of Common Sandpipers (Actitis hypoleucos) a summer visitor with a very distinctive 3 note song and bobbing action. Also Foxgloves adding a lovely dash of pink.
