Loch Morar Self Catering

Loch Morar Self Catering Self catering accommodation on the north shore of Loch Morar in the West Highlands of Scotland. We are located on the north shore at Bracara.

We are located on the West Coast of Scotland near the port of Mallaig on the beautiful Loch Morar, this unique loch is the deepest body of freshwater in the British Isles at 310m and is 11.7 miles long. We have a small croft with mainly Hebridean sheep, chickens and ducks. Our two self catering properties both sleep two people and offer a quite get away for two. The Byres is the old converted cro

ft house situated prominently overlooking the loch. It has spacious modern accommodation for two with a picture window with views of the Loch, super kings sized bed or twin on request, separate kitchen and shower room. The perfect romantic hideaway, simply relax and enjoy the view or explore the wonders of the local area including the Small Isles, Knoydart and Ardnamurchan. The Wee Lodge is our glamping pod, a small but perfectly formed step up from camping or alternatively, an on-suite room with a view and small kitchen. Sit on the decking and enjoy the view with sheep grazing nearby and ducks playing in the stream.

Red Breasted Merganser (Mergus serrator) These handsome diving ducks belong to the sawbill family. They form large flocks in the autumn and overwinter on our coastline. This attractive fella was enjoying the afternoon sun at Arisaig along with other males and a female. I think they were so overcome by the sunshine they thought it was spring because they were displaying. (see reel ;-))

Ben Resipol is the highest peak on Ardnmurchan at 872m and is a Corbett. On a clear day the mountain offers amazing views of Loch Shiel, Loch Sunart, the Small Isles and Skye. It’s a strenuous climb and the path is indistinct in place graded as one of the harder hillwalks by Walk Highlands.

Castle Tioram
An ancient fortress thought to originally be a principal stronghold for the Clann Ruaidhri likely dating from the mid 13th Century. The ruin is situated on a rocky tidal island of Eilean Tioram at the confluence of Loch Moidart and the River Shiel.
It is also the start of the “Silver walk” a rather vertiguous path that follows the shoreline through attractive woodland. This estate path was built in the late nineteenth century, named the silver walk due to the hoard of Elizabethan coins discovered during its construction.

Whatever time of year you choose to visit Loch Morar there will always be something awe inspiring.
This morning it was the quality of the autumn light on the water and the haunting sound of whooper swans. They are just passing through, pausing for a rest before continuing on their migration but we welcome their brief presence.
