I just love finding out where sayings come from...this would is a good-un 😆
Have you ever got the wrong end of the stick?
This saying is almost 2,000 years old! It is linked to the Romans, who were an ingenious bunch and are famed for their clever heating systems & baths. They also created some of the first toilets….
Romans loved doing things communally & toileting was no different. Sitting in a row you would do your business whilst having a friendly chat.
Remember this is before the days of loo roll, but once done….. you’d ask your neighbourly chum to pass the stick that had a sponge at one end, so you could clean yourself up.
Again this was a communal stick and one you certainly wouldn’t want to grab the wrong end off! Hence why it’s not good if you get the wrong end of the stick!

Cotswolds Guided Tours
Weird British foods. Well, if you are heading over to the UK, do not be put off by ‘Toad in the Hole’.
The earliest record of this Great British staple dates back to 1787, where ‘any boiled meat could be cooked in batter,’ the use of sausages in this dish became popular in the First World War….why toads?
Well the logic behind that is unclear but it is thought that the meat poking through the batter is similar to a toad peaking up through marshy ground.
Either way, don’t panic no toads in sight!

Cotswolds Guided Tours - Happy March Everyone!
Crazy weather today, we have blossom & daffodils….and then as we were driving around we had a flurry of snow followed by sunshine 🤪
March is a super nice time to wander through the Cotswolds & we are huge fans of spring!🐑 We are really looking forward to our 2024 tour season & meeting all our lovely guests from around the world 🌎
This is the gorgeous village of Stanton, we love visiting and soaking up the cottage architecture along the beautifully preserved village streets. The Cotswolds Way (the regions most famous walking trail) passes through the village. This thatched cottage actually came up for sale last year…Richard & I were tempted but by the time we ummmed & awwwwed it was sold 🫣
We hope you all have a fabulous start to the month. Today is St David’s day so very apt to have some daffodils bobbing around. Plus a big shout out to one of my most dearests friends ‘Sav’ Happy Birthday to you 💕

We hope your week has been going well so far…we unexpectedly had to replace our computer 🫣 this week…in the process have found a few cottage pics that I am sure we haven’t shared before 🥰 hope you enjoy them!
I have also been updating our tour availability pages….dates are filling up fast!
Private Tours:
We only have 28 private tour dates left between April & the end of October. Lots of space in March & November.
Small Group Tours:
This year we have introduced our two day North & South Cotswolds small group tour, which only takes a maximum of 7 guest…really it’s a super tiny group size 😉
Day 1 this 8 hour tour explores our favourite spots in the North Cotswolds including:
Rollright Stones, Adlestrop, LowerSlaughter, Bourton on the Water, Upper Slaughter, Snowshill (pictures with the rainbow 🌈) Stanton, Broadway (thatch cottage pic) Dovers Hill, Chipping Campden
On Day 2’s 8 hour tour we travel down to the South Cotswolds & you will get to explore:
Bibury, Malmesbury, Castle Combe & Lacock village (street scene pic)
This is a great way to explore the famous spots along with some super pretty hidden villages, most are inaccessible by public transport. The tour departs on set dates throughout the year from Moreton in Marsh railway station. You will travel with Richard our 5* 🏆 tour guide 🤓

Cotswolds Guided Tours
Check out this AMAZING house……….known as a ‘Cruck house’ in the charming village of Lacock! 😄
When I was out and about today doing a fruit & veg shop…I noticed that the ‘wonky’ veg has now become super fashionable. And why not! That mis-shaped carrot doesn’t taste any different. Nature has a way of providing us with just what we need, this house is a prime example of craftsman & women working with what nature provides….you & I might see a wonky tree….back in the 1300’s the local builder saw this as the perfect opportunity 🥸
A cruck house was usually a cheap, humble abode. A suitably crooked branch or trunk was spotted growing and was cut down. It was then split into two so that it became a pair of matching pieces of crooked timber.
These were then pegged together at the top, using wooden pegs to form an A-shape, with the crookedness of the timber naturally providing the slant of the roof. 👏 😉

Happy February Everyone!
I know some people find January tough so it’s nice to move forward into February. The days are getting brighter, the weather a degree or two warmer & the spring bulbs are just starting to pop through the soil.
Rich, Shep & I did some filming in this beautiful village of earlier this week and I know it won’t be long until it bounces back to look like this with the marsh marigolds lining the riverbank. Yellow is such a happy colour so thought this would be a good pic to kick off February!

Good Morning Everyone ❤️
Well it is Tuesday & as we are nearing the end of January. I am pining for a little sunshine ☀️ so thought this sunny scene from would do the trick.
We love visiting Castle Combe on our two day North & South We offer this as a or on set dates throughout the year as a (max. 7 guests) In this little video you’ll see the black & white building. This was the village dating back to 1490! Wowza, what is super special is that inside, painted above the fireplace is Henry VIII’s original coat of arms, sorry I haven’t got a pic of that to share with you. The coat of arms was specially painted as Henry himself visited this cute little village (not on a Cotswolds tour 🤪) but because it was once a hive of activity due to the wool industry.
Just love these little titbits..it always makes me think you never know what secrets or treasures these old homes have to share.

Cotswolds Christmas Countdown 22nd December 2023
Now you are either a lover or a hater...I am not talking about marmite (which I love....in small amounts) As we are on the subject of Christmas, I am talking about those little green cabbage style balls packed full of vitamin k ......the Brussel Sprout, and a bit like marmite I have to have these in small doses...my maximum of these is probably 5! These poor little critters are regulars on the 'most hated vegetable list'...Let me know if you are a fan 🤓
Fun Fact 22: These sprouts were widely cultivated in Brussel's back in the 16th century (hence the name). Here the Brussel sprout industry is worth a whopping £650 million & each year we cover the equivalent of 3,240 football pitches with them.
There will certainly be a bowl of sprouts on our Christmas table 🥰

Our Story

Lucy & Richard, love running Cotswolds Guided Tours, their aim is to provide fun, relaxed tours at a fabulous price! Each day they will take out a maximum of 7 guests, the tours are ideal for solo travellers, couples & small groups. If you would love to spend 6 hours enjoying the Cotswolds then book a tour with this local husband & wife team.

Lucy & Richard have designed two fantastic tours, the Famous Cotswolds Tour, explores the most well-known locations, The Slaughters, Bourton on the Water, & Stow on the Wold. Along with 2 handpicked locations, one a fairytale thatched village, the second a ‘secret’ village. The Cotswold Highlights Tour visits a completely different part of the Cotswolds, and explores wonderful hill-side villages, including Snowshill (where Bridget Jones was filmed) two gorgeous market towns, Broadway & Chipping Campden, and a stop at the smallest & highest Castle in the Cotswolds, Broadway Tower.
