We have just change our usual coffee from Mocha Mondo to the RNLI lifeboat blend in support of all the time they spend volunteering to keep us all safe at sea. We regularly see them out on excercise and more serious situations up and down the coast.

Cross House Cottages would like to wish all our visitors a very happy new year.

With major recent refurbishment to our apartment (check out one of our photos below) and a lovely spruce up for our studio we are ready to welcome you in 2024.

We are dog friendly (up to 2 medium sized dogs) and allow bookings that are a minimum of 3 nights so there is no excuse not to treat yourselves to a little (or longer) break away.

Winter has come for the start of the winter season. The garden is looking lovely while we cosy up inside!

The new kitchen and tiled flooring in our apartment are now complete. We are so pleased with the result. The heritage colour works well with the dark beams and natural stonework.

We have listened to our visitors requests and the slight change in design has given more cupboard space for their food for their stay.

We weren’t planning on getting any major work done to our studio but while we had our amazing tiler in, and we had a few spare tiles, we have replaced our skirting boards with tiled ones instead.

Work in progress!

Our new kitchen and flooring in our apartment is currently being fitted. Should be finished in the next couple of days. We can’t wait to share it with our guests.

The sea has gradually calmed since Storm Babet. The foam that was left has now gone and been replaced with large chunks of sea coal. The power of the sea is amazing and should never be underestimated.

Our guests comfort is really important to us so we are always looking for ways we can upgrade our properties. We are pleased to announce that both properties now have new mattresses ensuring our visitors have a good nights sleep 😴

After a total refurb of our studio a couple of years ago and a fair bit of work on our apartment we are pleased to announce that the apartment kitchen will be replaced next month too along with new tiling to replace the old tiles and lino currently in place. The kitchen will have a similar look and feel to our studio. We are looking forward to sharing photos of the completed work once it is done.

We may have moved into Autumn and the crowds(if you can call them that) have left for another year but the weather this morning was gorgeous. It’s going to be a hot one.😎

If you are looking for a break over the next few months we have just had a cancellation for our studio from 10th to 15th Oct and also have 25th to 28th Oct available. Many of our guests are shocked by the garden when they come to stay at Cross House Cottages.

Luckily it's in a good way 😊. The photos of the garden have never truly portrayed the size! Plenty of space to potter, take in a bit of sun or let your dogs let off some steam. This aerial view by Gavin Forster Commercial Photography certainly does it justice. Thank you Gavin.

The chain link bridge near Berwick is now open. It spans the river tweed so you can cross from England to Scotland. It’s the oldest bridge of its type and is well worth a visit.

We tied it in with a visit to Paxton House and has a lovely lunch in their tea rooms.

I couldn’t believe it when I heard that one of our current guests is a stilt walker!! He is working at Alnwick Castle for a few days supporting their summer programme of events.

Let sleeping dogs lie!!

Our 2 after a lovely walk this morning on Warkworth beach.

Have I ever mentioned that every beach (bar a tiny one inAmble) are dog friendly all year round? With mile upon mile of golden sandy beaches locally and one within a 15 min walk it’s a perfect place to come to visit with your 4 legged friend.

There are loads of fab dog friendly things to do in Northumberland. With friends visiting over the weekend we spent a fantastic couple of hours on the Setenity boat trip to the Farne Islands. We also had 2 fine dining experiences at The Whittling House and The Potted Lobster Bamburgh. Book early for both to avoid disappointment. No need to leave your pampered pooch behind.

This could be a great option for any of our visitors. A perfect way to visit the wonderful castle and to give money to charity too.

Dog-sitting service back after a super successful trial run! 👍

volunteers will be back on Sunday 30th and Monday 31st July providing a dog-sitting service in the grounds of Bamburgh Castle to help raise vital funds for their fantastic charity! 🐶❤️🏰

NDR will also be here throughout August with selected dates confirmed - please see our ‘Whats On’ page on our website for details. 😊

This wonderful new service was trialled earlier this year and was a great success, allowing families to visit the interior of Bamburgh Castle all together, or allowing single visitors with dogs to see inside 🙌

A suggested minimum donation of the following would be greatly appreciated for this service:

• 30 minutes dog sitting: £5
• 60 minutes dog sitting: £10

All proceeds will go directly to Northumberland Dog Rescue. 🐶🏰❤️😊

Just back from a lovely walk around Bolam Lake. It’s not long but is pretty flat with a good surface so great all year round.

On our way home we made an impromptu stop at for lunch at The Beresford Arms - Whalton. What a lovely find. It’s a wonderful country pub in a beautiful village and the food was outstanding. We had some sharing plates and they were all amazing. We will be back!!

This would be a great place to pop into after a visit to Wallington NT or Belsay Hall, Castle & Gardens while staying in Northumberland.

Now that the beautiful sunny weather has arrived our guests can enjoy relaxing on our new outdoor furniture.

Perfect for a cuppa or something a little stronger. For letting the time pass with a good book or just enjoying the sound of birdsong as you unwind.

Only 15 minutes walk from miles of sandy beach too for a plodge in the sea!!

Are you celebrating a birthday? Or anniversary? Or just want a few days break away from the daily grind? We still have availability throughout the year in both our properties.

We are dog friendly (up to 2 small/medium sized dogs) with a large enclosed garden for you dog to explore and plenty of walkies for humans and pooches directly from the property. The river is under 5 minutes walk and the beach about 15.

There are several great places to eat and drink on your doorstep if you want to totally chill. We have a minimum booking of 3 nights so if you want a short time away to recharge your batteries we have it covered!! The properties are perfect for couples.
