Watercress Lodges & Campsite is located alongside the Mid Hants Steam Railway at Ropley station. The idyllic farmland setting is just over three miles from the Georgian market town of Alresford. We offer something for everyone from traditional camping, safari and tipi tents and for the next level of comfort and glamour whilst the lodges are well equipped for individual or group stays. For the bene

fit of the campsite there is a recently constructed shower and only half a mile away is The Ropley public house offering food sourced from local suppliers. The location is perfect for a family stay with events such as in Thomas the Tank Engine Week taking place (as well as for enthusiasts to feel the steam!). Rain or shine, winter or summer, our safari tents offer a cosy escape all year round.

Equipped with fairy lights as standard, a king size bed, wood burning stove and a sofa bed, there’s also a balcony with a bbq, gas hob, fridge and seating, with views straight across to the Watercress Line.

Please be aware, on the 27th June, Ropley station will be closed. This is due to some maintenance work being carried out by Scottish & Southern Electricity Network in the area. White Horse, Alton (for the full-on football fans - but they've just had a refurbishment too!)

Alfies (this one will be full of football fans, and is centrally located near the bus stops)

The Bishop on the Bridge, Wi******er (Right on the river Itchen, with a gorgeous beer garden to enjoy prior to kick off)

How lucky we are to live in a place like this! Head to The Rose & Crown, Farringdon, down the side path by the thatched cottage and you’ll find miles of fields to explore! You’ll have definitely earnt a rest stop at one of our favourite pubs after that!

Two of our lodges are dog-friendly, the perfect base for the Hampshire countryside!

The Alresford Watercress Festival returns this Sunday!

Returning for its 20th anniversary, this popular event will see the streets of Alresford closed to traffic, filled with market stalls, food and drink vendors, cookery demonstrations, and activities for the kids such as falcon displays and circus skills.

It's free to attend, and the train from Ropley to Alresford is free of charge for this day only (available with park and ride or guests of the Lodges and Campsite).

We'll pray for the sunshine, so why not make a weekend of it and bring the tent to stay for the weekend?

Just a short The Watercress Line stop down the line in Four Marks, you'll find Triple fff Brewery who have some great ales and gins (along with plenty of other options). Give them a follow to keep up-to-date with all their events, they have frequent quizzes and open mic nights!

The millennium trail at Alresford is a gorgeous river walk, a short circular (approx 3.5km) with the perfect stop-off point at The Globe, Alresford, or extend the walk to take in the full watercress trail (approx 7.5km).

Whilst we're known for our incredible railway setting, we're also a great location for foodies.

The local Alresford Watercress Festival draws crowds from far and wide, and we're surrounded by some absolutely brilliant restaurants and cafes. Most recently, the 2023 Masterchef champion, Chariya, opened Khao Soi down the road in Alton.

We went along last week, and safe to say, it's one to book! If you can't get in during your time with us, we'd highly recommend any of the following:

Camping might not be for everyone, but we do have a few options to make it more accessible for those not keen on the idea of buying all the gear, including our bell tents which are all ready for your arrival.

Deceptively spacious, these 5m tents can sleep up to 6 people and we can provide blow-up beds, camp beds, and even a cooker, so all you need is sleeping bags, a pillow, and a sense of adventure!

With the arrival of Ivor at the Ropley Miniature Railway there's even more of a reason to book a break for you and the little ones. This superb volunteer railway runs alongside our campsite and beyond, on a donation basis. The perfect spot to view the large trains on the mainline too!

It’s back! Christmas has officially returned to the lodges thanks to The Watercress Line and their illumination train, which will now run until Christmas. A welcome sight for all our guests as it pulls up Ropley station just opposite our lodges.
