Season 3 - week 9
From Saturday 21st Oct to Monday 23rd October there were 10 matches and 33 goals.
If every player who got onto the pitch (including subs) had to travel from their country of origin to play, how many "air miles" would that be? The key questions are:-
Q1). Which team had the highest total air miles?
Q2). Which team had the lowest total air miles?
Q3). Which team's scorers had the highest total air miles?
In addition there are further questions which change every week, and that you may also like to try.
Q4). Which team played 2 players in their first game this season?
Q5). The majority of teams field players with at least 2 having surnames beginning with the same letter, but which team fielded 4?
Q6). The average team has had 6 or 7 different goalscorers so far, but which team have the most and the least?

(apologies for the lateness)
From Saturday 7th Oct to Sunday 8th October there were 10 matches and 27 goals.

At last, the owners of the former Co-op building are tidying it up, repainting, and we have lost the crazy green Mickey Mouse mural visitors by car and bus first saw as they arrived down Rowson Street. Lets hope the painters continue along the Victoria Road side of the building and we can have a more attractive entrance to the "Victoria Quarter" where there are some really good murals.

A lovely smile greets visitors entering New Brighton down Rowson Street in the form of a new mural.
Local charity Charlotte's Brightside have moved from their premises near the top of Rowson Street to the Community Centre bringing their services for young people and social supermarket with them.
The mural is of Charlotte Churchill and was painted by local artist "Brez" who has a number of other murals around the resort including Peggy Gadsby on the side wall of the New Brighton Hotel.

Liners, Liners, Liners.
Last night I saw the cruise liner Viking Saturn leaving the Mersey, and over breakfast this morning saw the X Celebrity Apex arrive in the rain. It leaves this evening and is immediately followed by the Norwegian Dawn arriving on Saturday, the Viking Venus on Sunday and then the Fred Olsen Borealis on Monday. A great boost to the local economy as the average passenger spends over £70 per day, and with the liners carrying 2-4000 passengers that means between £140,000 and £280,000 per liner.
Most is spent in Liverpool but Wirral does have attractions which gets passengers across the river including the Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Port Sunlight and Chester. Lert's hope that some of them come to New Brighton too!

So sad to read the news that the wonderful Black Pearl will not be rebuilt, but heartfelt thanks to Frank, Major and the volunteers who made and maintained all of the previous versions that became so popular with visitors and residents. New Brighton cannot afford to lose any visitor attractions, especially an iconic one like the Black Pearl so lets hope that it could re-appear, perhaps in a permanent last "harbour" at the bottom of Vale Park next to the prom.
