PENGUINS! π Rockhopper penguins to be precise. The feistiest of all the penguin species! Full of character and as tough as they come, Rockhopper penguins inhabit the Falklands most hostile cliffy environments, and like many penguins, spend all winter at sea, cruising about in the ocean and not coming back to land until breeding time. The Southern Ocean is a BIG place and the Rockhopper penguin is a small penguin: about a foot and a half tall or so! But they fearlessly come and go in all that the ocean throws at them - the only time I've ever seen these birds harmed by the waves throwing them onto the rocks is during a "one in 50 years" storm. Check the last photo for an apparition... A Rockhopper in a foam "costume" π after getting lost during landing and having to swim through a pool of foam created by the waves stirring up chemicals in the kelp! π§ ππ
