You might not think you need a doula as you have a supportive partner, however, adding a doula to any birth team is a good investment.

A useful visual for a new mum x
"See that tiny pink bead on my lanyard? That is the size of a newborn's tiny tummy. When baby is born, the birthing parent produces colostrum for baby, which is the perfect for baby. Colostrum contains just the amount of food baby needs and passes antibodies. It's ! In this photo, I have a standard 2 ounce bottle of formula that is given to new babies. So, if baby's belly is only the size of a marble, what happens when baby is fed 2 ounces? Well, baby will usually spit up all the extra, which then can be spinned into baby having reflux. When really, baby is just being over fed. This leads to interventions like formula changes, antacid medications, etc. It's important that we give families all the available information so they can make the best decisions for their families. 'Having a doula was life changing for me. Jane helped me find the strength in myself to achieve the healing birth I longed for - a very much needed VBAC, at home in the safest place I know, my kitchen. I owe Jane a huge debt. She advocated for me throughout, showed great care and compassion and had my back every step of the way. I canât recommend the services of a skilled doula enough'
Thankyou Clare Fazal. It was an honourđ

I'd like to shout this from the rooftops!
YOU CANNOT SPOIL A BABY BY ATTENDING TO IT'S NEEDS!
And doing this as often as your baby needs, is what your baby needs!
It is such an outdated idea that has been superseded by scientific advances in pre and perinatal psychology which show That ignoring babies needs can cause psychological distress.
A baby's brain is still developing and growing in the first 3 years of life so the basic pathways of having needs met and feeling safe are of paramount importance.
Of course I understand that breastfeeding, Co sleeping, baby wearing etc are not achievable for everyone, but caring for our babies as sensitively as possible, without ignoring our own needs, really does help babies develop their full potential.

What Is a Doula and Should You Hire One?
What Is a Doula and Should You Hire One?
During my first pregnancy, I was nervous about what would happen to my body and how painful labor would actually be. You could say that I had some first-time jitters about the whole experience and so my mother suggested that I hire a doula. I had no idea what a doula was at the time but after meetin...

Why being a professional âhand holderâ is more scientific than it sounds
Why being a professional âhand holderâ is more scientific than it sounds
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made the headlines last weekend after it was revealed theyâve hired a doula to attend their babyâs birth. Since then, Royalists have clutched at their pearls as Meghan breaks yet another tradition (side note: she hasnât) an

Why Donât More Women Hire Doulas?
Why Donât More Women Hire Doulas?
Each year, around 700,000 babies are born in the UK and yet, I estimate that less than 1 per cent were supported by a doula during birth and/or postnatally. Yet, despite all these incredible benefits, women still donât hire doulas! There seems to be thre

Some births are over in a flash, some are slower, and don't quite go as planned.
This weekend I saw the power of Hypnobirthing see a strong calm mum through a long labour, with her loving supportive husband by her side.
The journey didn't take her preferred route but she accepted that with good humour.
Welcome to the world baby M. It was an honour to be there ###
