- Newcastle University ranks top 10 in Europe for Teaching Excellence. The most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF) in 2014 assessed the School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics and ranked it 1st in the UK for Research Impact and 3rd overall. The School offers some of the most diverse and flexible degrees in the country. In addition to English Language and Linguistics, we teach creative writing, film-making and film history, drama and children's literature as well as literature from the Renaissance to the twenty-first century. We are home to the Newcastle Centre for the Literary Arts (NCLA), which brings internationally renowned writers to Newcastle, organizing readings and events that are open to our students and the general public. We work with several Partners who support assessed work experience placements. We also work closely with alumni and our award-winning Careers Service to enhance the employability of our students. We have excellent resources which include: The Robinson Library (awarded the government's Charter Mark five times) and its unique Special Collections, Culture Lab, The Catherine Cookson Archive of Tyneside and Northumbrian Dialect. Last, but certainly not least, we are based in the heart of a wonderful city!
