The next day of racing at the iconic Cheltenham Racecourse is Friday & Saturday, 13th & 14th December. My tip is to buy a Timeform racecard for £5 to help you choose a winner.

The Forest of Dean is full of wonderful little surprises.

Last night, my friend, Karin and I popped along to the Boat Inn at Panalt for the pub quiz. They were fully booked but some people cancelled last minute so we were given their places. We were given a warm welcome and had a wonderful time

The Boat is one of those rare traditional pubs that is so hard to find. Best of all, you park in the village car park and follow a windy path and bridge across the River Wye to get there.

It was lovely to see a huge notice on the wall listing all the local ciders and the distance from the pub. The nearest is 600 yards away

Well I had a marvellous supper with my friend,
Douglas, at Nagomi Cheltenham on Wednesday so I popped back with my friend, Laura today.

Laura and I had a fabulous meal followed by Jasmine tea. Everything was completely different to food we are familiar with; it was a delicious and exciting meal and we so enjoyed it.

Nagomi is the perfect place to go and eat the most fabulous food and relax and chat with friends. Even if you are not familiar with Japanese and Korean cooking, you will enjoy the new experience enormously

Sebastian Burchart’s Three Day Wood Carving Course, https://facebook.com/events/s/3-day-wood-carving-class/464362376555447/ , has now come to an end.

It has been wonderful to see Sebastian’s students learning new new skills and producing beautiful pieces to take home or give away as surprise presents. He is a very popular teacher; giving his students ideas or helping them to realise their own ideas in the carving.

The farm just came alive with a creative buzz as everybody made friends and bounced their ideas back and forth.

I will let you know when the next class dates have been decided.

It a very Autumnal morning. The colours in the landscape are magical. Pomme says his early morning walks are starting to feel a lot chillier. He will be very happy to get home again for his brekkers.

You could have heard a pin drop as well all sat utterly captivated and Izzy Weatherall, told us all about her epic swim across the English Channel. Izzy is a quietly spoken vibrant young lady with a huge cheerful smile and she is a joy to listen to. Izzy talked about the preparations involving getting permission for the swim and taking the tides into account. She had a boat beside her with her proud mother and the rest of her team shouting directions and handing over drinks and four jelly babies.
Behind that warm friendly smile, there must be a determined young woman of steel because we all said that none of us could ever imagine making this huge achievement. Izzy talked about the extra effort she had to put in to swim against the tide towards the end of her swim.
When Izzy reached France, the official rules allowed her to stand on the beach for just 10 minutes and then she had to get onto the boat and return to England. She told us that she slept very well on the boat journey back.
It’s always interesting to hear people talking about their epic achievement but Izzy’s story really got us all thinking and we are eagerly waiting to hear what she will do next.

We are all anxious about the effects of pollution on our planet. Our local big worry is The River Wye; we have all seen it change from a fresh sparkling river of clear water full of fish to a filthy brown mess and this has happened in a frighteningly short space of time.

Laura Liddell, one of our long standing and favourite Producers here at the farm, has been campaigning on behalf of the Wye for a number of years. Laura is a very talented artist; you have seen her works of art in the shop along with cards, beeswax wraps and the adorable Harriet Hare. She is a powerful artist who makes a strong statement with her work; many of you will have seen Laura’s large work of slate depicting the tragic deterioration of the Wye and the very frightening hand embroidery showing where the problems stem from.

Laura has got together with a large group of fellow artists and the community to put on the Ebb & Flow Exhibition at The George at Newnham on Severn. They have worked very hard to produce a variety of different pieces in a range of medias and to lay on some really good events including music, storytelling and workshops.

Laura wrote the newspaper article in the photographs; you can also read about the event in Laura’s own words.

If you can possibly support this wonderful and very important local cause, please do go along and enjoy the hard dedicated work of Laura and the other artists and help to give our beloved River Wye a chance to return to its former glory.

Just to remind you what The River Wye used to be like, only a few years ago, here are Laura, Karin and I sitting in the shallow water enjoying our cups of tea as the little fish nibble our feet. We have a beautiful two mile swim and we miss it very much indeed. It is no longer safe for us to swim in this water.

The Holst Victorian House Museum, in Cheltenham, is the actual birthplace of Gustav Holst. It is well worth seeing and they have a wonderful range of events. You can read more on the website

This was a fabulous outing. Thank you very much for organising it, Bee Wilson of .info and .co.uk for the networking group . The museum stayed open in the evening, especially for us. We had a fascinating tour and were very well fed.

Pomme is very old and grey now and we love him more than ever. He has given more than one sheepdog’s lifetime of hard work and faithful companionship on the farm.

The Winter straw has been collected from Gavin. All great fun catching up on all the news We have this most marvellous old bale elevator which wobbles the bales along and up into the top of the barn. It’s frightfully noisy and a bit Heath Robinson but it make a huge difference to the stacking of the bales.
