I thought it was hi time to reintroduce myself and Travel Tonic to our new followers.

I’m Fiona Reece and Travel Tonic is my business, a small travel and lifestyle communications company which I set up in 2007 after many years of working in the sector for larger consultancies and in-house.

I live on the border of Herefordshire and Gloucestershire, close to Ross on Wye, in the countryside with my family; husband, 10 year old son, very hairy Jack Russell, three cats and Maurice the Spider (not sure how long he will last though!).

Travel Tonic offers inspiring, thought provoking and supportive PR and digital comms in the travel and tourism sector. Travel really is our DNA. It’s what I’m totally passionate about. We love working with clients to help them stand out from the crowd and develop creative campaigns. We are straight talking and focus on working hard and smart.

We support in house teams, founders and entrepreneurs, as well other specialist consultancies, thinkers and agenda setters. We work in so many different ways and our new website gives more detail on this so do check it out, as well as showing lots of case studies of our work.

I’m currently developing a new programme which will be focused on helping tourism businesses become great storytellers – How to Create Your Wow – so watch this space for more on this over the next months.

I mainly share our work and things which inspire me from the world of travel and tourism on our socials, as well as day to day life stuff, images from my travels, even when they are just a few miles from home.

My brain does buzz with ideas a lot. I am even known to dream about campaign ideas. Sad but true! I’m the queen of a catchy campaign name and love showing just how effective it can be if you let your PR loose on on product development.

That's for another time!

Here’s something Sophie Jackson Studios and I have been working away on!

Well, Sophie did the gorgeous design and bought our ideas alive and we did the words and chose the pics …for our new website.

Promoting other people’s businesses usually leaves little time for our own but we got there and it’s making us feel all energised with lots of exciting things up our sleeves for later this year, sharing more ways we can help travel and tourism businesses stand out and ‘Create Your Wow! ‘

In the words of Steve Martin.. ‘be so good they can’t ignore you!’

Soul Soother ...

Is it just me .. or is this year already more manic around Christmas / end of year mad dash than usual ?

Just felt like sharing something to calm the mind and sooth any frazzled souls out there (including me)..

These images were taken from one of our big launches this year and it really was a pleasure .. Rewildthings on the Elmore Estate in Gloucestershire – six luxury cabins with awesome views and design / interiors, located at the heart of a nature recovery programme.

This feels like a good place to be .. staying in nature / embracing the winter / enjoying what an incredible beautiful country we live in ..

Hang on in there .. only 14 sleeps to go!

NEW CLIENT - GAPGURU

It's D Day for thousands of students today receiving their A level results (or T Levels / BTECs too).

So, it's pretty topical to announce our new client - who are pros at helping school levers be part of something big during their gap year.

They offer students planning a gap year the opportunity to travel to destinations across the globe including Thailand, Cambodia, Nepal, India, Peru and Tanzania with a wide range of projects focusing on Climate Action, Creative Arts, Sports, Health and Education.

The focus is on combing travel and building skills, gaining real world experiences while understanding development challenges and contributing towards a better world. The programmes offer total flexibility so they can create personalised gap year experiences at one of GapGuru's permanent overseas hubs.

Check them out - gapguru.com - plus they are offering students the chance to have their gap year funded through a new scholarship programme we are launching today.

Applications are open to apply for one of over 20 travel bursaries of up to £3500. Now, that is good news, even if the results news wasn't everything you wished for.

Do DM us if you need anything more on this and we can help with any gap year features! The team at Gap Guru are there to answer any questions on their programmes and each student travelling with them is provided with a mentor.

Thank you Ian Belcher and Guardian Travel for bringing our Moon Walks alive in Carmarthenshire with Quiet Walks - a great place to head for a cosy 'Cwtch' break .. and of course pics by Doug McKinlay

The hike to the Garn Coch iron age fort may be pretty by day, but a new guided full-moon walk offers a whole other experience

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL !

Just a quick message to wish all our friends, family and industry colleagues the very best Christmas and here’s to a happy healthy 2022.

It’s been quite a ride but we are so grateful for keeping busy, working with some incredibly talented and inspirational partners and colleagues.

We have loved working on some great UK campaigns and even managed a few further afield.

From launching a scenic touring route around Herefordshire celebrating the centenary of ley lines with , to helping get the word out about new bases in Sri Lanka , to a welcome focus on Slow Travel with new European Rail Collection.

We have also loved exploring more of the natural world with the introduction of Starlight Safaris at and a plethora of cycling routes in Carmarthenshire, Wales’s cycling hub, as well as the ‘stately home takeover’ wellbeing retreat in the UK for .

If there was an overriding theme to travel this year it would have to be glamping in all shapes and forms working with our long standing partner who we have now been working with for almost ten years as well as our new clients in Scotland at , not forgetting the glorious new houseboat from .

We’ve loved working on more social media and content projects and have marvelled on the clever use of FPV technology whilst launching the most amazing drone fly-through of a mock wedding for – totally outstanding. And, of course our film projects working with those clever people at have been so much fun, full of energy and delivered to such a high standard.

Next year we would love to keep doing more at home and fit possible a little bit further afield please! We are hoping to bring an increased focus on sustainability to our comms consultancy offering. We can’t wait to partner with and experience one of their new Impact Expeditions at first hand in Malawi in April.

All the best,
Fiona, Claire, Kate and all the brilliant partners in our Creative Collective X

Lovely to see two of our UK destination clients in this top five small towns for Christmas shopping ! Thank you Wanderlust travel magazine and our colleague Emma Humphreys !

Llandeilo in Darganfod Sir Gâr - Discover Carmarthenshire is a total gem .. it was the first place we stayed around 14 years ago on our fam trip to the county .. and really is packed full of such gorgeous indi shops ..

And Ross in Visit Herefordshire .. pretty much Travel Tonic's home town - so we should know a thing or two about it .. and it is part of our Slow Shopping campaign for the county - check out the social feed for great shop shopping itineraries, tips and offers at some very lovely places to stay if you are looking for a quick shopping break before Christmas ..

Forget the crowded Christmas markets and head to a picturesque small town instead, home to independent shops, fabulous local cuisine and a wonderful community

A great example of voluntourism.. experiencing something completely different .. getting away from the day to day grind to an orchard full of apples in Herefordshire (you could call it an eco ‘apple’ gym I guess) plus free cider tasting of course ..,what’s not to like ?!

In the county synonymous with cider apples, volunteers can enjoy a mini-break while helping with the autumn harvest
