Happy St David’s Day 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Go Ahead and make some Welsh cakes to Celebrate

Ingredients

Makes 10-12 cakes | Prep 10 minutes | Cook 4-5 minutes each

8oz / 220g self raising flour

2oz / 55g caster sugar

4oz / 110g margarine or butter

1 or 2 handfuls of sultanas

1 or 2 free-range eggs depending on mixture

Method

01 Sieve flour into bowl, then add margarine or butter, rub in finely together.

02 Add sugar and sultanas and mix.

03 Add 1 egg and mix. The consistency needs to be bound together, so if too dry add another egg.

04 Roll out on a floured board, to about a quarter inch thick.

05 Cut using a 2 inch (5cm approx) cutter, then cook on a greased pan, or bake stone, on a medium heat for about 4 to 5 minutes each side.

06 The exact cooking length will depend on what you are cooking your Welsh cakes on, but keep a close eye - too short a period and they won’t be cooked in middle, and cooked for too long and they will be dry. When touched during cooking they should feel springy, but not wet to the touch (no mixture should come out of the middle).

07 Once cooked dust with caster sugar and enjoy.

DAY 1
Depart local pick ups through out South Wales and travel to Caernarfon to our hotel for a 4 night's stay.
🚌EXCURSION 1
Excursion to the unique village of Portmeirion built on a private peninsula on the coast of Snowdonia in the style of an Italian village.
🚌EXCURSION 2
Today we travel to world famous Bodnant Gardens, noted for its botanical collections, offering glorious displays of colour. Here you can marvel at plants from all over the world from seed and cuttings collected over a century ago on plant hunting expeditions. We continue to Llandudno, one of Britain's finest Victorian seaside resorts.
🚌EXCURSION 3
Enjoy a leisurely drive into Snowdonia National Park taking in the breath-taking scenery. We make our way to Llanberis where we board the famous Snowdon mountain railway to the summit of Wales' highest peak. On fine days the views from the train are breath-taking with views over the island of Anglesey and the Menai Straits, as well as many of the surrounding peaks.

NOTES
Adverse weather conditions may affect the journey to the summit, in which case the train would stop at Clogwen.
DAY 5
We depart after breakfast and travel back home to South Wales making suitable comfort stops en route.

Last week, we were excited to welcome a school trip from France to Wales! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

The group of 33 passengers arrived into Bristol Airport, where a coach met them with packed lunches and took them to their accommodation.

We prepared an exciting itinerary for their visit, which included:
- A trip to Cardiff Castle
- Exploring St Fagans National Museum of History
- Enjoying a Selfie Exhibition at Cardiff National Museum
- Visit to Alexandra Gardens
- Discovering Techniquest, the science discovery center
- A fun bowling session
- Lunch with an exchange college in Cardiff

Daily catering and evening meals in and around Cardiff City Centre were also arranged.

We hope the group had as much fun on their trip as we had planning it!
