Happy September folks!

Hard to believe the school holidays are coming to an end, but what a wonderful 6 weeks of weather & what fabulous guests we’ve had too!

Now, talking of fabulous guests, you may recall a couple of weeks ago my excitement for the next family to arrive … & no-one guessed why!

Well here’s the answer! 📷 💙👏

After 4 years we now have some pro photos of TLC with huge thanks to Joe Matthew, on his 3rd stay with Amy Wells and their lovely family who occasionally star as top models too!

With over 100 shots to choose from and lots of systems to update, it’ll take a while to share them all … but here’s a sneak peek!

Oh yes it is!

The Circus is back in Newquay and based at Dairyland until 8th September. With daytime and evening shows, and coming highly recommended by the wonderful Cornwall with the kids, you can’t go wrong!

Love these pics from our current guests while enjoying their 3rd visit to Teal Lodge Cornwall in just over 2 years. 💙

With 2 girls, now 7 and 4, they were amongst the first to highlight as a favourite local attraction and it’s been high on our list of recommendations ever since for those visiting with pre-schoolers and young children!

Open every day until the end of September, then 4-5 days a week in Oct- Dec and with a large indoor multi-level soft play area as well as all the trains, boats and other activities, it’s a great family choice whatever the season & whatever the weather!

A couple of seasonal special events to watch out for too if planning an autumn / winter stay

- Grand Fireworks Spectacular 1st & 2nd Nov (bookings open in September & we have availability still for Half Term dates - be quick!)

- Santa - weekends from 30 Nov & daily. 19-24 Dec (slots open to book now - they’ll fill up rapidly though & we have availability up to 23rd December - perfect for a pre-Christmas treat!)

So we all know there are scammers out there offering holiday homes that they don’t own - but you’d think you’d be safe with the likes of booking . com, hence some guests choose to pay more (fees & commissions) for the security of a big company …

However, more and more people are turning up to holidays that don’t exist, as reported by Which 😢 - not least as there is no verification process for the millions of properties listed!

Please be sure to do thorough research before giving your hard earned cash to Online Agents like this. Or book with someone like me (preferably me 😉) who is very present online, has lots of reviews, an established website, & offers secure Card payments through Stripe.

Travellers say they were forced to pay for new accommodation, or ended up sleeping in their car, after paying for lets on Booking.com that ‘don’t exist’.

When an old favourite becomes a new favourite 🦊 💙

Regular followers and past visitors will know how highly we rated - an amazing award-winning gastro pub that was always high on our list of recommendations to guests …

So when it closed suddenly a few months ago in sad circumstances we were gutted both for the owners and as a loss for food-loving locals & guests alike

So, imagine how excited we were to hear that it had been bought and revived by Adam Handling, and was back open as less than 2 months later, just in time for our summer visit 👏

And wow, what an amazing job they have done:

It’s fair to say that the prices are a slight step up from before - I’ve attached a copy of the menu as an example - but plenty of options and still genuinely very reasonable especially for the quality provided …

With the convenience of online booking on Open Table plus a kids’ menu & a special Sunday lunch option too, it’s straight back onto our guest recommendations list!

An amazing recent discovery … this way ➡️

Can’t believe we’ve virtually driven past this place for so many years & didn’t even know it existed 🤔

After seeing it recommended more than a few times on socials this year … 👍

And having left early & made great time on our journey down to TLC … ⏰

We thought we’d stop off here to “pass a couple of hours or so in the afternoon” while the lodge was being made ready for us 🧹 🧽 🪣

So, seeing as we were there from midday until almost closing time, some 5+ hours later, and still didn’t do everything, perhaps that tells you…

… how much there is to do (all included in entry) 🙌

… how much we enjoyed it 😃

… and perhaps how competitive & stubborn we are 🙊

We loved our curry from Chywel Meadow Outdoor Reared Pork (just at the end of the Newperran resort drive) a few weeks ago … next time hopefully we’ll be able to have the brunch!!

We always buy their bacon and sausages for our stay - a lovely little business to have as a neighbour!

“Newquay’s best kept secret” … is out!!

We finally made it to for brunch last week

Expectations were high, but wow, it really was worth the wait!! 💙

Stunning views, lovely staff & amazing food 👏

And even though it was pretty busy, we could even park right outside & got a couple of great tables on the terrace at 10.30am (No bookings taken / required 👌)

This place really is a hidden gem - and will be going straight onto our top recommendations list for summer guests accordingly 💙

I think it’s fair to say we tested a fair number of the brunch options, perfect for both meat-eaters & vegetarians / pescatarians, between the 6 of us
… and they were all delicious:

- “The Ferryman” Cornish Breakfast 🥓 🐷 🍳

- Eggs Benedict with added Cornish Crab meat 🥚 🦀

- Scrambled eggs with smoked salmon 🥯 🎣

- Eggs & Avo with added Cornish Crab meat 🍳 🥑 🦀

Oh and one of us may have also bought a couple of cakes to take away for later too 🙊 - I sampled a piece of the lemon & polenta cake and it was excellent 🍰

Currently open 9am to 7pm for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, early dinner, special lobster feast nights & even takeaway 🦀 and 🦞

Located on The Gannel, between Newquay & Crantock, it’s an amazing location which, is accessed by

- 🚘 (small car park, street parking or 10-15 min walk from the Pentire car park) + 15 min drive from TLC

- 🚤 (or, from the Crantock side / beach by ferry and/or footbridge depending on the tide)

After brunch, some of us walked down the steps to the beach as well 🏖️

(Land’s) Ending the night with a bang 💥

Did you see my last post about our visit to Land’s End for the evening and the “Magic in the Skies” event?

First time in 4 years … we did it!!

We went to Lands End!!

Yes, it’s still very commercialised &, to me at least, it doesn’t feel like anywhere else in Cornwall

And for sure there are many more beautiful places on the coastline …

But, we were keen to see the summer “Magic in the Skies” Fireworks (every Tuesday & Thursday at 10pm up to 29 August) and, to be fair:

- it was a beautiful evening 🌙
- it was less than 20 mins from Penzance, where we went for dinner after the pm at St Michael’s Mount 🏰
- the sunset was spectacular 🌅
- the atmosphere was great with live music (as well as plenty of food & entertainment options if you were to go earlier to enjoy these) 🎤
- the fireworks & accompanying music and story were impressive 🎆
- it was busy but didn’t feel crowded 👏
- Parking & exit was v well-organised 🚦
- For £8 per car it was a great value evening out 💰
- it took less than an hour to get back to TLC 🚙
- We were all in bed by midnight after a fab day!! 💤

I might even go again some time … 😮

There’s no doubting that Rowena Cade was a remarkable woman and that the Minack Theatre is a unique and truly stunning work of her creative genius

If you would like to visit it this summer, please be sure to book well in advance - whether for a performance or for a visitor ticket.

I saw a post at the start of this week that all visitor tickets were sold out up to today - so please don’t leave it to the last minute if you don’t want to miss out!!

St Michael’s Mount is always one of our top recommendations to visitors to Cornwall

That’s why we chose it as a meeting place and first stop on the agenda for a day with great friends from home who happen to be holidaying in Cornwall this week too!

We’ve been many times but still visit at least once a year - and on a sunny day like this it was just beautiful ☀️

Depending on tides you can often walk across The Causeway to the island one or both ways, which is fun - we happened to pick a rare date where this wasn’t possible all day - but the boat crossing is always lovely and super-efficient too 🚤

* Entrance is free to National Trust Members (but timeslots must be booked online as numbers are managed). Parking, boat transfers (£2.80 ad/£1.50 ch) & ice creams are chargeable!!

St Michael’s Mount is 26 miles (approx 50 minute drive) from Teal Lodge Cornwall … we continued into Penzance for dinner and on to Lands End for the fireworks - watch this space!
