ALCOHOL ON BUSES notice from PSNI
Subject: Belfast Vital Policing Operation 2017

To follow up on our recent meeting dealing with the policing operation for the Belfast Vital event.

It is the PSNI’s intention to operate a robust response this year to the issue of alcohol on buses. It is our intention to target buses attending this event in an effort to prevent both underage drinking and the associated problems that arise as the result of alcohol intoxication. This will be an intelligence led operation conducted in partnership with the other agencies and partners involved in this event.
You will be aware that last year the DOE commenced a process whereby they imposed a requirement upon Bus Operators to take a more proactive approach to the carriage and consumption of alcohol on their buses. This includes making it a condition of the contract between the hirer and the operator that the hirer will comply with the law, the operator will display a sign advising that it is an offence and take reasonable steps to prevent consumption on their bus. PSNI will report all operator breaches observed to DOE for follow up action.
