All right, friends, let’s chat about Halloween and why it’s close to my heart, especially as someone who’s been storytelling and leading ghost walks for the last decade. 🎃

For me, the end of October is a time to connect with a tradition that goes back over 2,000 years and has deep roots here in Ireland. 🍂

Samhain (pronounced “sow-en”) is where Halloween began, but it’s much more than costumes and sweets. 👻

For the ancient Celts, Samhain marked the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter—a time to prepare for colder, darker days. ❄️

Our ancestors here on this island and throughout the British Isles believed that during this shift, the veil between our world and the spirit world became thin enough for spirits to pass through. 👀

But that wasn’t something to fear; it was something to embrace. 🔥

When I take people on ghost walks around this time of year, there’s always a moment where we stop and listen to the old stories, feeling a connection to the past. 🕯️

It’s one of my favourite parts of what I do—watching people get a sense of something bigger, even for a moment. 🌌

That’s what Samhain is for me.

It’s a time to honour those who came before us and perhaps even feel their presence nearby. 🕸️

Samhain wasn’t just about the supernatural.

It was also practical. ⚒️

Our ancestors used this time to prepare for winter.

They’d stock up on food, light massive bonfires for warmth and protection, and hold rituals to keep their families and livestock safe. 🐄🔥

Food offerings were left out to appease wandering spirits as an old-world trick-or-treat! 🍗🍏

So yes, when I say Halloween means a lot to me, it’s because Samhain isn’t just a festival.

It’s a connection to something ancient. 🌙

It’s about understanding the balance between light and dark, life and death, the seen and the unseen. 🍁

If you have ever joined me on a ghost walk this time of year, you’ll see that it’s not just about the stories.

It’s about keeping a piece of our heritage alive, remembering those who’ve gone before, and honouring a tradition that shaped this place. ✨

Whether you’re out trick-or-treating or lighting a candle for loved ones who passed, I wish you all a wonderful Halloween and blessed Samhain. 🍂

Here’s to our ancestors, the stories we carry forward, and a season filled with warmth, wonder, and maybe a few friendly spirits along the way. 👻 🥃 🧡
