Days like this are just made for the beach. Evening swims at this time of the year are fabulous...a very different feel to a morning dip.
After a busy day and a trip to the gym there is nothing better than a swim before bed.

Seems like a good time to show off the new wheels. Meet Dyane- she's a 1982 Citroen based on the iconic 2 CV. Created specifically for French farmers to drive across the fields with suspension that would ensure the safe passage of a basket of eggs ....absolutely perfect for roads here atm! 😉Now resprayed in original bamboo green, she's a total dote! With a roll top roof, dashboard gear stick and a class engine sound you cannot help but smile when you see her! Mark is absolutely besotted.❤

Sunset Cruise. The rain began just as we arrived, I had grave doubts about a boat trip. But we donned our coats (extra large dry robe just to be sure) and boarded. It was my friend Miriam's last day in Ireland after a month of travelling. What a send off! Sailing up the lough between the Cooley and Mourne Mountains with dark moody skies, singing and dancing to the music of the was the perfect end to her trip and a fantastic Wednesday night. The music was superb - a 2 hour music gig on a Wednesday night in the middle of Carlingford Lough - just brilliant. Book tickets, pack a picnic and be prepared to dance. Do not let the rain put you off. 🕺

There are a lot of videos and chat on social media about practicing gratitude! It can be a bit OTT but I absolutely love a dry, bright Sunday morning. Living less than half a mile from the sea is one of best things about life here. Being able to run along the water's edge, take a swim when I fancy or just walk and listen to the sound of the sea are all really simple pleasures which can easily be taken for granted. My Sunday morning run isn't so much about time or distance but being in the moment. So yes I am grateful for my running route, a dry morning and my comfy running socks!

It's been a busy week for us as we said goodbye to our recent guests. The group were with Linford and Karin from the band Over the Rhine and Gareth Higgins (Retreats Ireland). We met Linford and Karin last year and were introduced to their music (which we loved). This year we met Rob their sound engineer who has started BlackFork Radio based in Cincinnati Ohio. Tonight at midnight if you are awake you can hear Linford and Karin reflect on their recent trip to Ireland and we might even get a mention. 😊

The last Friday in June often signifies the end of something.
Our nieces are saying goodbye to friends and leaving their international school today to return to a new school here in September. Our favourite English teacher retires today! She never ever lost her enthusiasm for her subject or desire for her students to succeed. For them all there are exciting new chapters ahead.
But that end of term feeling also means it's time to relax, enjoy, plan trips, see friends and throw the timetable well and truly out the window.

Isn't it just class to get a few days of really lovely weather! Of course we've taken full advantage of our fantastic beaches. Positively delightful. Usually my swims are in the morning but at this time of year sunset swims have to be one of the best things. Swimming towards a setting sun....magic 😉

I've had the opportunity to call in to visit Claire McC Ceramics.
Claire is a ceramic artist based at Cranfield just outside Kilkeel. Claire works from her studio, runs classes and sells on line.
My suggestion is to get yourself signed up for a spin on a potters wheel over the summer.

It is still early in our summer season but already we have had guests visit from America, China and India. The thrill of being able to share our culture, heritage and boiled cake with international guests is something that we both love doing. We may have to ration our intake of cake though!

Our week ended promoting ALL things Mourne, Gullion and Strangford with Alice Mansergh, the new CEO of Tourism Ireland and Helen McGorman head of Stakeholder Engagement, along with industry colleagues and the tourism team from Visit Mourne and Newry, Mourne and Down District Council . Sustainability, outdoor activities, the beauty of the Mournes were all discussed and we addressed some of the challenges faced by tourism businesses in the area. With the Mourne mountains and the sea as a backdrop it is never hard to be enthusiastic about this little corner of the world.

Mark was talking to his Mum this week and they were chatting about D Day. She told him a story of an American GI based here in training for the Normandy landing. His name was Emerson Lamb - he was missing home and visited the Gordon's farm at Drumcro. It reminded him of his own home and family back in the States. Emerson spent some of his R&R helping out on the farm. He left for Normandy and the folk at Drumcro never heard from him again. Granny Hanna has thought of him often over the years. She was only a little girl but the memory of the American GI and his time at Drumcro remains very strong.
We don't know what happened to Emerson, but I love the fact that a Mourne family gave him some respite from the worry of war and a little bit of normality at a time when he was far from his own family.

Miserable day outside so I'm sorting and re arranging. This is a fraction of my collection of props! We use them for events, photo shoots, decor in the houses and of course for weddings. There is all sorts here gifted by friends, found in charity shops or discovered in my grandmothers shed. Each piece has a story and I love reusing and repurposing. It goes without saying that Mark doesn't even really know this room exists! 😀

Spending time in nature boosts mood, revives low energy levels and often gives us the space to find solutions for some of life's challenges! Looking up through the trees this morning was delightful. The sun was bright, the birds were singing and the leaves were rustling. Our guests love the chance to unwind surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature!

At the end of last week we had a visit from our friends at Mourne Stimulus Day Centre. As a business we are passionate about working in a way which promotes and encourages sustainability.♻️ Our guests do their part by recycling their drinks cans, we store the cans and then the day centre are able to use them to generate income. Part of the beauty of this very simple partnership is that when the folk from the day centre come to collect the cans it forms part of their day. They are able to come and have a walk and enjoy the outdoor space. As you can see from the smiling faces its a lovely way to spend a Friday morning. ♻️

Our hearts were heavy in October but our souls soared with the sound of guests singing at a recent wedding . The words were perfect💖

Back home after 2 days of meetings with international travel buyers. I have never done anything like this before. It was intense and very busy with consecutive 15 min appointments! Congratulations Discover Northern Ireland and Tourism Irelandfor organising such a successful and surprisingly enjoyable event! It was great to be with Newry Mourne and Down businesses all promoting each other, Visit Mourne and Mourne Gullion Strangford Geopark. My table was beside Adam and Rachel Flat Cap Adventurers - 4x4 and Louise from Gray's Bushmills. If you are up at The North coast look these businesses up. After hearing so much about Yoyo - coffee & dough I finally got to go! Coffee and cruffin were consumed. Coffee was delicious (probably my most important requirement!) and the cruffin a real treat. Secret Dining with Paul Cunningham

A little secret that we have been keeping! We have been working with Paul for a few months and we are delighted to have now had 2 secret dining events at The Green in our beautiful Meadow Barn. Guests were treated to an amazing 11 course tasting menu. Paul entertained guests with stories of the food provenance, preparation and the inspiration behind each dish. Guests were picked up in Newcastle and didn't know where they were going until they arrived at the top of our lane. Arriving on the Aughnahoory Road at night in the depth's of winter is not for the faint hearted! A walk down the lane, along the river across the bridge to The Meadow Barn added to the anticipation and excitement of a truly memorable experience.
