Paddleboard/Kayak Instructor***
Location: Decoy Lake, South Devon.
The Devon Windsurf & Canoe Centre is a busy well established summer water sports business. We are an AALA and RYA registered centre. The Centre is run by 3 full time staff, and other instructors and helpers are used on a sub contract basis at busy times and to stand in for staff members on their days off.
The position offered involves teaching paddle board and kayak taster sessions. In addition the ability to teach or assist with windsurf teaching sessions would be advantageous (although these skills can be can be taught and learnt on the job). Dealing with school groups and youth groups of all types.
Applicant as a bare minimum would be a qualified paddle board and/or kayak instructor.
In addition, any, or all of the following would be an advantage:-
DBS certificate
First Aid certificate
Safe guarding & protecting children certificate
RYA level 2 safety boat qualification
Life saving qualification.
Previous experience working at a watersports centre with all age groups.
Sense of humour and ability to fit in with other staff.
The job involves helping set up all the kit that will be needed and preparing the centre for the day. Then most days helping with hire customers, teaching or helping teach sessions on the water, helping with evening group sessions, and then helping pack all the kit away at the end of the day.
Job position is full time, flexible hours from 24 May until 30 September. During term time daytime working hours are dependant upon school bookings, most weekday evenings are busy, and then as many days as can be coped with (min 5) during the summer holidays.
Salary paid is negotiable, and will be based upon previous experience and qualifications. It is generally a fun, enjoyable place to work, but it can be hard work with some long days.

During term time we have school bookings during the day and other group bookings such as Scouts, Cubs, Guides, Brownies, Boys Brigade etc most evenings. In the summer holidays we deal with hundreds of mainly sit on top kayak and Sup board hire customers, as well as bookings from summer sports camps and kayaking birthday parties. In addition, on Thursday evenings from the end of June until the end of the season we run our ever popular Junior Watersports Club.
