A smaller change from our recent updates was to add a chair to the twin room. I now have my eye on a cushion... why does finishing one job always seem to create another? 😅

To those who use airbnb, booking or other OTA's can I please ask you a question? (Poll below)

An issue we and other hosts are having is that these sites consider a 4* review as a negative, which damages businesses and reduces their ranking and visibility in searches, yet they don't make this clear whilst you are completing your review.

We have stayed in multiple short term lets recently, some we couldn't really fault with some 4* reviews, and some which could improve yet all 5*.

We have had a few 4* reviews which have rated us as 4* overall, yet 5* on the individual categories (cleanliness, location, accuracy, check in, communication and value) and a lovely message to say they've enjoyed their stay and would like to return. So there isn't anything constructive we can take from the review but it impacts our performance and takes a lot of 5* reviews to help reverse the damage (I haven't quite worked out how many yet but at least 10.)

Of course if there were reasons for the lower score we would take them on board and do our best to rectify the issue and would prefer the opportunity to do so during the stay.

But I know some people just don't leave 5* reviews, or reserve them for exceptional circumstances, which is hard to achieve when being upfront about what you offer from the point of booking. And I don't believe these people were aware it would damage our business, I certainly wasn't.

Then there is booking who rate out of 10, but the review process asks you to select from 4 faces and doesn't tell you that 😁 is 10/10 and 😊 is actually only 7.5/10 and there is no in between.

So I'm thinking of ordering and displaying something like the image below somewhere in the property, but would like your thoughts and opinions first?

Well, actually, it's already here, but unfortunately it's having to be sent away during our next stay to be repaired... nothing is ever straight forwards is it? 😅

In the meantime, Chrome, YouTube, Plex, channel 4 and channel 5 are working. Prime and Disney+ also seem to be working, but we haven't got accounts to try them fully ourselves yet. If you do and are staying with us in the next few weeks, please feel free to give them a go and let us know 😁

It's been a very busy few days and one of many jobs was fitting a new door to the conservatory.
After months and months of searching and finding crazy prices for a bespoke door due to the low doorway and steps, we decided sod it and cut down one to match the rest of the house 😅
Hasn't turned out too bad I don't think and will definitely keep the heat in better 🙂

We can now add door fitters to our list of skills we've acquired from Nordlys 😅💚

Our poor forest after storm Eowyn 😢 but proud of our 175 year old cottage for still standing strong. We lost a downpipe off the garage, the garden needs a bit of a tidy up once the weather improves and a couple of roof slates replacing, but just shows how lucky we have been, we have 3 huge trees in the garden that I would have been heartbroken to lose 💚

Before and after. I know it's only a chair, but the first one (ordered online) has bothered me for months. The wrong green and too wide despite me double checking the online measurements, but it was that or leave a dressing table with no chair 😩

The new one being the right colour and fitting under brings me far more peace than it should 😅
