Did you know that Newtonmore has a Heritage Trail? 👣
Newtonmore is a traditional Highland village with much to offer visitors. The heritage trail has been set up to tell you something about the history of the village. Newtonmore has been a popular holiday resort since the 1880s and used to be known as “the gem of Highland health resorts” ⛰️
If you are visiting Newtonmore, you can pick up a trail leaflet from local shops, cafes and accommodation providers and enjoy a stroll through the village. You will find 13 information plaques along the trail and a PDF of the leaflet is available.
NB: inclusion in the trail is not an invitation into the property. Please remember that some of the sites are on private land and we ask that you respect all property owners’ privacy.

COMING UP AT NEXT WEEK'S HERITAGE IN ACTION DAY...

Basket maker and bee keeper Bryce Reynard will be here to demonstrate how to make straw coiled basketry.

Come along and have a go at learning the skills to make a straw basket or a traditional straw bee skep.

Bryce will be here from 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 4pm. No need to book, just drop in.

As ever, we'll have plenty of other crafts and demonstrations on across the whole site, from wool spinning to coracles, and waulking the cloth to thatching.

We'll see you then!

Have you been to the The Wild Flour cafe in Newtonmore ? All the food including cakes, scones and bread is homemade. Freshly made soup and sandwiches with vegetarian and vegan options available.
A garden terrace, conservatory and lounge areas mean a variety of sitting options depending on the season.
Children and dogs are very welcome.

So many local walks and so much choice!

Today, we followed a recent guest's recommendation to walk the Beaver Trail on the Rothiemurchus estate just outside Aviemore.

New signs showcase the Beaver Trail which starts at the Inverdruie car park and follows a 7km ( 4.5 mile) circular loop through the forest on wide smooth paths. Suitable for all abilities, bikes and buggies. Loads of information about the recently re introduced beaver and their key contributions to ecosystems. By building water habitats for creatures such as dragonflies and frogs, beavers enhance the variety of insects and animals in the area.

So much going on this weekend in Newtonmore and Kingussie and just not enough time to do it all! What will you try and see?

WOOLLY WEEKEND

Come along on the weekend of 22nd and 23rd June to enjoy all things woolly and have a go at some new crafts!

We’ll have plenty of talented craftspeople here over the course of the weekend to demonstrate spinning, dyeing, weaving, knitting, crochet and more.

The award-winning Badenoch Waulking Group will be here each afternoon to perform waulking the cloth to traditional Gaelic songs.

You’ll be able to try out activities yourself, and who knows, you might end up with a new hobby…

It might technically be summer, but with the weather we’ve been having recently, learning how to spin wool and knit yourself a jumper could be useful!

Activities run each day between 11am and 4pm. Entry to the museum is by donation, car parking charges apply.

Today was mostly about weeding and sweeping in the garden but also taking some time to admire some of our lovely flowering plants. Plus watching the GIANT hosta getting bigger and bigger every year!

Highland Folk Museum and the showcase the local social history and culture and a must for our holiday guests who want to know more about this beautiful area.
