As dog owners ourselves we are always happy to advise on offlead local walks. This is one of our favourites, in wood, moorland and river (for one of us!) by the river Tromie.

It was really special to welcome Bill and Rose here from New Zealand, who booked with us in 2019 to come in March 2020. They postponed to 2021 then cancelled due to covid, but are now here! They are Macgregors with family connections to Auchmore house between here and Laggan. Also the last guests to come whose travel was disrupted by the pandemic. Really hope they enjoy the rest of their long-anticipated trip!

Embarrassed that today was the first time we stepped inside the Aviemore Ice rink. It offers skating, ice hockey, curling, ice discos and more besides each winter. We tried our hand at curling under the excellent tutelage of Graeme, and really enjoyed it. Surprisingly energetic. But next time we will wear thicker socks!

There is snow up the mountain! Cairngorm mountain is currently only offering beginners' skiing as many runs are incomplete. But there is lovely snow higher up for walkers and ski tourers.

This coming weekend is looking quite good weather wise, so how about a 2 night break to enjoy it?

Fantastic fireworks at the golfcourse tonight. It's a mile away, so you can easily walk down to watch. But if you have nervous pets we are far enough away for them to be at peace.

Woohoo we now have our full Short term Lettings license for our Newtonmore cottages, ref Hi 70254 F. What a journey this has been. Please note if you have stayed before, we had to change the layout of stable cottage from a 4 to a 2 person cottage in order to comply with new requirements. Our EPC rating is F.

In celebration of this we are offering 3 weeks for the price of 2 in 2024. To take advantage of this offer, please book and send your deposit by Nov 20th 2023. If the weeks vary in price the cheapest week is free. This offer only applies to stays for consecutive weeks.

We look forward to seeing you next year!

Dates now updated.

We have unfortunately just received a cancellation for the first week in August for Barn cottage. This means that, together with other vacant dates, Barn cottage is now available from 8th to 21st August!

Loft cottage sleeping 4 is also available 15th to 22nd Aug.

This is almost unheard of to have vacancies this late on for August, so why don't you take the opportunity to book a late summer holiday, and see the Newtonmore Highland games and the Cairngorms in their summer splendour! Barn cottage has a double bedroom and a small single futon bed, and is fully equipped for a comfy stay.

We have been busy in January getting ready to welcome you again! We have done inventory checks in all the cottages, renewing items as necessary, carrying out some maintenance, and updating all the cottage folders with local information.

There is currently quite a bit of availability this year apart from May, when we have decided to close the cottages.

It's midsummer, which can only mean one thing, the orchids are out! The river section of the Wildcat trail is a great place to see a variety of orchids, and indeed other flowers. Not to mention it's a great place for a swim!

There are a few local events taking place over the long weekend. Tonight beacons are being lit across the land at strategic points. These include Creag Bheag in Kingussie and Suie Hill in Kincraig.

There is a food festival in Rothiemurchus from 11-3 on Friday.

Will add other events as soon as I hear about them!

Or they eat fruit, veg and bread ( just not citrus, onions or parsnips. )

Some great skiing conditions just now, with all the Scottish resorts open. We are closest to Cairngorm, but only an hour or so to the Lecht and Nevis range also.

2022 permits are now available to purchase online and all outlets (Laggan Hotel, Wolftrax & Invernahavan Caravan Park not yet open).

New venue selling permits this year due to the closure of the paper shop in Kingussie is the Duke of Gordon Hotel who are open 24 hours.
