Some of our usual post-walk coffee stops were pretty busy last week with half term. We popped by Alvie Forest Food at Alvie & Dalraddy Estates , thinking that we'd just grab a coffee and drink it in the car, as it was too cold to eat outside, but they've got a yurt now with an Esse stove in it, so we ordered veggie burgers and veggie hot dogs from the van. The choices have expanded too since we were last there, and there's now a Thai food van, and the great local pizza mobile pizza van too on that day. Really makes it an all year round option now, and dog friendly πŸ• it was filling up with folks as we left.
(have to ask for the veggie options, it's a very 'meaty' van with mostly burgers, ribs etc with loads more choice than up on the board and something for everyone).

Baltinna East channels our inner Alpiniste!! But with a touch of the Highlands and of course our own WSR style. Have to admit I have a soft spot for East - just a few pics from this mornings checks as we prepare to welcome today's guests.

Just popped in to make sure the heating is up, the lights are on and the fire is laid, so that it's nice and cosy when our lovely guests arrive at Baltinna West later today.
❀️ these mountain-themed linens, Scottish tartan blankets and little pops of orange, they warm up a chilly day too!!

An old favourite and a new place for you to try locally - bit of a mash up of pics here but they're labelled for you!
The Star in Kingussie has been undergoing a big renovation over the last two years, and the results look great! Had Sunday lunch there yesterday with a big group of friends, and the carvery was really good (and there's veggie options too if you let them know when ordering) - already busy and popular.
The Rowan Tree (by Loch Alvie on the back road towards Aviemore) ticks the box if you're looking for special occasion dining in a relaxed setting; wild mushrooms, chateaubriand - our wee party enjoyed veggie pasta (me :😊πŸ₯•πŸ«‘) salmon with risotto, chicken stuffed with haggis, affogato...
Both places had great friendly service and menus online, so you can check them out in advance of your visit. 🍽

This January Rod and his wife Di had a wee road trip to the Med. They chucked the paddleboards and the skis in the car, decided to follow their noses... and ended up in Vallter 2000 in the Spanish Pyrenees.

Let's talk beds!! Soooo important and our lovely guests love ours as you can see!!
We combine a high quality mattress with a sumptous memory foam topper, so that you get both support and comfiness (the additional topper with its removable cover plus mattress protectors means it's always a super-hygienic and fresh combo too).
Add to that local Scottish tartan blankets or cosy fleeces, plus carefully selected French linens with a very soft high thread count, and these are beds that dreams are made of - just as it should be, so that you're relaxed, revived and ready to make the most of the next day of your Where Stags Roar stay. πŸ›πŸ’ www.wherestagsroar.co.uk

It's Burns Night tonight!. For any Burns Supper we're never short of someone to 'address the haggis' with Rod's dad around, as it was often part of what he used to do for a living!! This pic from a couple of years ago, with Rod pouring his dad a dram of (over the haggis, but that's optional! ) BTW the veggie haggis that we have is superb, so if you're a bit squeamish about the traditional haggis, just give that a go!
