What a day ☀️
And there’s more to come this week!
We’re loving September so far 😎💛
Former Shop converted to Luxury Holiday Home on the beautiful Island of Grimsay, North Uist.
What a day ☀️
And there’s more to come this week!
We’re loving September so far 😎💛
We’ve been updating some of the photos on our Accommodation details. (Thank you https://dsmedia.uk/ )
Take a look at what the Old Shop has to offer.
Summer might be drawing to an end but we are open all year round and the place is as cozy as it looks 🥰

SUNDAY AFTERNOON QUIZ! 🤔
So many beautiful beaches here on Uist.
Here are 30 pictures from some of our walks, all on Uist with the exception of one.
Can you spot the odd one out?
Comment on the picture and let’s see if many can get it.
(Enjoy the Uist pictures too, we are heading out to walk on one of them ☺️)
We’ve had so many lovely Guest Reviews this summer saying what a cozy well equipped Holiday Cottage The Old Shop is ☺️
Looking back at photos from a year ago today we can see that there was still a lot to do to achieve that 😬
It’s on the wild windy days (like today!) that we remind ourselves what our beaches would look like if every day were warm and sunny 😅
Thankfully the top picture was taken only yesterday and we were able to be on the beach 😎
Great picture of Clachan Sands, just one of our fabulous beaches 😍
It’s Feel Good Friday so let’s start the day with heavenly North Uist.
You won’t be disappointed ☺️
We have spaces available on our Friday wildlife cruises, departing from Kallin Harbour in Grimsay at 3pm and 5.30pm.

Gone midnight and the sky is still “burning” 🔥
I’m sure our guests in The Old Shop will be fast asleep but the midnight sky here on Grimsay is pretty special outside tonight ❤️
We were fortunate to accompany some visitors on a trip out on Lady Anne last weekend.
It should be the highlight of any Uist holiday.
Not only did we see Eagles (both Golden and the larger White Tailed Eagles) but also Red Deer swimming and also had a long encounter with an Otter.
Did I mention the glorious weather? 😎
What a trip!
The online booking system is now open for 2024 wildlife cruises!
We're really excited to welcome you aboard Lady Anne and get started on another season exploring Uist and Benbecula's beautiful and wild coasts.

Whistle stop tour but come along to some of our favourite places and people ❤️

Is North Uist really that beautiful? 😳
It sure is, but why not come and see for yourself ☺️

Some more of those Before and After pictures 😳
We’ve come a long way in a couple of years, transforming this place.
Amazing to see it looking so sharp and worth all the work🥰

Before and After!
That’s changed a bit in a couple of weeks 😁
Back inside while Kathleen blows her stuff 💨
It’ll be good to get the last of the flooring down 👍
DIY is great but there are days when I think it would be good to “get a Man in” 😅
A heavy few days fighting rocks to level the paths and start to spread the 10 tonnes of gravel delivered😓
Some rocks we wrestle out, others we work around 😅
You thought your garden was stoney !?
Blowy out there today, cold hands so had to work extra fast to complete the front fence 😉
We might have missed that hour’s sleep but it’s good to be welcoming British Summer Time on North Uist 😎

I’m not really a gardener but I’ve heard it said that it’s a good idea to source your plants locally 🤔
You don’t get more local than this! 😅 🌿
Taming some outside spaces around the Shop. Hard landscaping this week with furniture and planting to follow.
Creating some sheltered sitting spaces to enjoy our amazing views, and hopefully some summer sunshine too 😎
A little project !🔨🪚
A few months ago I said I had plans for a used Whisky Cask that I had. Typically they make garden planters but I turned it over and with a bit of work it’s made a unique coffee table for the Old Shop.
The markings are a complete fake of course but our friends at North Uist Distillery like our tribute to them and their Whisky plans.
We hope you like the table.

Some wild weather here in recent weeks! I love the Seasons and the variety in our weather but Spring is my favourite. The Season of new beginnings and new life 🌻🐑. Not too long to wait now 😎
Nothing wasted when you’re renovating in the Hebrides 🔥🤗 But did I keep all my fingers till the end 😬
Not Loch Ness, but Baymore! Who’s got eagle eyes and sees the activity that I spotted out of the window this morning. Someone was fishing for breakfast in the bay 🐟
This is a “thank you” to everyone who commented on my last post - Boat or Build. I was all for working today but you rightly reminded me that sometimes it can be more productive to put the tools down and have some time out! Seize the day I’m always telling others. Today I needed to hear it from you 🥰 With my neighbour in the passenger seat we had a great run out. Headed round to Benbecula and explored some great little hidden inlets. Seals, Stags, Cormorant and Heron amongst other things we saw around the shores 👍
If you liked the rock breaking post earlier then see for yourself the force of fire and water 💥 Working mostly alone, I enjoy the challenge of finding ways to do what seems impossible at times 😅 #worklikeanegyptian
We did the right thing to grab a beach walk in yesterdays calm because normal service for February weather resumed today 😅 💨💦🌊 The video is a reminder from this time last year when we were still battling to get this place wind and watertight. Having felted that roof twice I was glad to finally get the slates on and it feels good to be working inside now ☺️
