Absolutely beautiful and clear here, with views 25 miles west to in the (first photo), and views 15 miles east to the moors (second photo), all covered with snow. The drive here can get icy but it’s south facing and the sun soon melts it.

Our first feline guest is currently staying in The Byre! It’s the first request we’ve had for a cat to visit and being a cat lover I couldn’t say no, and of course added a couple of cat friendly treats in the welcome hamper - I keep getting ticked off by my vet as my cat is overweight so a couple of her treats have been donated! I also added some fresh flowers to add a bit of brightness to a grey weekend.

I’m sure you’ve seen gazillions of photos of the the other night but it was incredible here. With no light pollution our view was really clear, you could even see it with the naked eye… one photo here is just a normal photo, the others are in iPhone night mode with a 10 second exposure, but then no fancy editing afterwards. It was naturally beautiful. Nice to get a shot of it actually over the Byre, I could’ve taken the washing line down before taking the photo!!

Always love getting bedding from the , this is “Natural Harry Stripe Brushed 100% Cotton” and has been laundered with before first use for tomorrow night’s guests. It’s unbelievably soft! Swipe to see what it looks like on the bed. Might have a little snooze in there before finishing prep!

I’m always a little bit perplexed when we’re marked down on “location”. An overall 4.86 mark means some guests have marked us as a 4 or a 3. We’re as clear as we can be, I think, that we’re located a little bit out of the way plus we’re easy to find on Google maps - surely potential guests check out the location where they’re looking to book? I know I do before booking anywhere!
Any tips on how we can be more clear on our location please?? X

Let’s talk washing up! Each time I prep The Byre for guests, I’ve been putting a brand new small washing up next to the kitchen sink. You know the ones, yellow sponge with a dark green scourer on top?? But I’ve been really conscious of the waste I’m producing by throwing away so many of these so have been seeking out an eco friendly alternative - and came across . I love that they’re 100% plastic free and compostable, and you can pop them in the dishwasher between uses. And the reviews were all great.

So, dear guests, your washing up scourer here may not be pristine brand new now, but I’ll be sleeping better at night!

It was beautiful at 04:45 here this morning! Don’t ask me why I was awake but I’m glad to have caught a couple of photos of the low lying settling in the hollows on the fields round here. I’ve also seen a today, in the normal place near Birkby Fox Covert across the road, but I savoured the moment watching it rather than grabbing for a camera.

We get some incredible views here… I took the photo this afternoon, the light was just incredible here but it was clearly raining over the , and the photo I took last night, it was a beautiful orange colour that I couldn’t quite capture.

Normally I tag providers whose products we use in the welcome hamper, this time I’m checking in with companies who provide other items available in The Byre… , a Yorkshire company, for hand wash, shampoo, shower gel and washing up liquid which we source locally, from in Northallerton. I always try a provide a pint of milk from and shop in for this. Previous guests have asked where the furniture is from; the bedroom furniture is (not Yorkshire based, sorry!), and the living room furniture and rug is all and I let my daughter loose on the styling and purchasing for all these! The bedding shown here is ; I try to keep to the bedding sets I have from as it doesn’t need ironing but we’ve had quite a few bookings recently so I’ve had to dig the iron out!

Almost colour-coordinated for this weekend’s guests! I might have to ask to randomly wrap their chocolate duos in a variety of coloured ribbons so I can pick & choose depending on which / / I have in the cupboard!

When we bought this house, the sellers warned “you get the weather up here”… that’s very true, but we get great views of it from here too. I wouldn’t want to have been on the during yesterday’s rain storm!

All set for tonight’s guests which includes a dawg so I’ve added a treat in the hamper and a dog blanket for those friendly dogs who like a lap on a sofa - the Byre sofas do seem to attract dog fluff!
Dogs are always welcome but please please keep them on a lead whenever outside, even if just getting them in or out of your car. There are farm dogs about plus we have very nervous cats - thank you!

We need to talk about !!
Tonight’s guests,taking a break from the coast-to-coast walk, have one packet of Listers crisps and one packet of Yorkshire crisps in their welcome basket. Having undertaken a taste test myself, I cannot choose between them. Are there any other Yorkshire baked crisps I could try?!!

Incredible to see the aurora last night. These photos are unedited but taken using the night setting on my iPhone with a 10 second exposure. It’s possible we’ll see this again tonight altho we’re due cloud cover. We’ll see!
