But it's not just about their beauty—giraffes play a crucial role in maintaining the health of their ecosystem. By nibbling on treetops, they help shape the landscape, allowing other wildlife to thrive.

☀️A few fun facts about Chile to brighten your day...

🏜 Chile is home to the driest place on Earth – the Atacama Desert (also the astronomical capital of the world)

🏝 Chile has one of the longest coastlines in the world (as you would expect from the world’s second longest country). If you’re wondering what the longest is, it’s Brazil!

🍷…It’s also the 4th largest exporter of wine in the world (cheers!)

Happy Holi everyone! 🧡🤍💚

Our new Senior Digital Marketing Executive Czara-lee shares her memories of Holi 2020 in Delhi…

“My first day in India started with Holi! We jumped in a tuk-tuk with the most charismatic driver, and joined the festivities at India Gate. The air was full of colour and such big smiles! I remember relaxing in the park with a plate of fresh momos, then strolling through an excitable Delhi to tuck into even more delicious food. Passing sleepy pups along the way, we found the only microbrewery in Connaught Place... It was an incredible introduction to a joyous trip! I thoroughly recommend staying in India over the Holi Festival, make sure you pack a white shirt - the colourful patterns left at the end of this beautifully bright day hold the best memories. ”

Happy International Day of the Seal! 🤍

Namibia's Skeleton Coast gets our seal of approval this year, as tens of thousands of Cape fur seals live raucously at Cape Cross. Just imagine the noise!

☠️ Skeleton Coast’s ominous name comes from the shipwrecks and whale bones that litter the shore. An estimated 500 ships rest here, having long ago met their end against the harsh breaks of the Atlantic Ocean.

While Skeleton Coast may not sound like the ideal destination for a safari, it's a noteworthy wildlife destination in its own right, the inland desert expanses overlooking Skeleton Coast are populated by brown hyena, giraffe, Hartmann’s mountain zebra, gemsbok and desert elephant trundling past. If you’re lucky, you may be able to spot a lion living near the coast, hunting for his supper! 🦁

Brave souls might be up for a surf, but Skeleton Coast is most safely viewed from a safari vehicle, quad bike, or from above during a scenic flight. Exclusive coastal camps offer you delicious cuisine, otherworldly views and outstanding personal service. 🥂

A huge thank you to our wonderful clients Fiona and Charles, we look forward to creating more unforgettable journeys for you! 💐

“Another trip of a lifetime thanks to Journeysmiths -

Since 2010 Journeysmiths (JS) have been advising us and arranging holidays all over the world. On every occasion they have excelled. Many have included multiple family members.

Our recent trip to Kenya was a little different, involving a small group of clients known to JS, a sustainability journalist Jonny Bierman, and Rory (Head of Sustainability at JS), who had arranged the whole experience, and continued to attend to every detail along the way as well as being good company. The trip was a safari with the additional unique focus toward "on the ground" conservation, and meeting the game changers making a difference in Kenya.

The profits from the trip directly benefit these people and the conservancies we visited. The whole experience, and sharing it with a group of like minded people added an extra dimension. Once again JS went above and beyond creating another "trip of a lifetime".

We are looking forward to our next 2 trips already in the making!”

Empowering women through travel✨

Inspired by International Women’s Day, we wanted to spotlight travel experiences that empower women in the world’s wild places.

When we create journeys, supporting local communities is of paramount importance - this is especially true of women and girls who across the globe face many gender-related obstacles.

For us, it is crucial that we work with partners that share our values and place strong importance on supporting women and girls. Each camp or lodge we use is meticulously researched to ensure that the people behind it align with this mindset.

Read our article (Link in bio), where we highlight some of our favourite destinations and experiences that either showcase remarkable women in conservation and travel, or give you a way to help empower local women.

Happy World Wildlife Day! 🐅

This year's theme delves into the exciting world of digital innovation!

‘Connecting People and Planet: Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation 🦎🤖’

The aim is to shine a light on how the newest digital tools and services are helping to protect wildlife, support sustainable and legal wildlife trade.

Encouraging a peaceful coexistence between humans and animals.

Our Head of Sustainability, Rory, highlights 2 great examples from our recent Small Group Big Impact trip to Kenya:

Each of the 21 rhinos translocated to Loisaba Conservancy are fitted with two different types of revolutionary GPS trackers so that the conservancy’s security can keep tabs on their movements. There is also an anti-poaching plane that does regular patrols of the whole conservancy.

One of the many conservation partners we worked with on this trip: The Mara Predator Conservation Programme, uses a software called CyberTracker to support their research of the predators in the Masai Mara. Our group got to grips with the software to identify individual lions and note where we had seen them!

It's all about making a positive impact now and for the generations to come in our ever-connected world.

Three cheers for Wildlife Day 👏

The story in pictures… 🦏

This February, Head of Sustainability, Rory Wood, and a small group of clients gained exclusive access to watch the final release of 21 black rhino into Kenya’s Loisaba Conservancy, during our Small Group Big Impact – safari for conservation journey.

Located in Laikipia, Loisaba has long been a Journeysmiths favourite. It’s a haven for many mammals including elephant, giraffe, zebra and the big cats, plus 250 species of bird and even rare black leopard. Now it’s home to 21 black rhino too!

The black rhino is critically endangered following years of poaching - the severity of which saw Kenya’s population decrease from 20,000 to under 400 in 20 years. Thanks to tremendous conservation efforts, the population currently sits at 850 and authorities are deeply committed to increasing this number.

Cirqa, in Arequipa, Peru wins the South American Conde Nast Gold List 2024.
The 11-room luxury boutique hotel is set in a former monastery, which dates back to 1540 (the same year that Arequipa was founded), and that history whispers to guests at every turn. On the terrace, alpaca fur is slung over washed wood chairs, while over at the restaurant, crisp white wines are always being proffered, and Arequipeño flavours like crayfish and rocoto pepper play alongside fresh produce from the valley.

Last year, we were asked by Chloe Berge to craft a trip that took her ‘under-the-radar' of Northern Kenya. A serendipitous moment as we love nothing more than taking our travellers off well-trodden paths and into lesser-known pockets, where deep connections are forged with both the land and its people.

Fast forward to the New Year and we’re delighted to read Chloe’s article featured in Vogue. The article paints an evocative picture of Northern Kenya’s remote wilderness and we encourage you to read!

‘It's these spontaneous moments with local people that I’ll remember here in Kenya’s hinterlands, in addition to the immediacy of nature. There’s every creature comfort I could want in my private villa at Ol Lentille, but it’s the wildlife outside, and the orchestra of birdsong always within earshot, that truly work their magic.’
