Lovely especially the almond croissants and Cruffins
We’ve been baking with love and today it’s all paying off!✨
Our teeny tiny bakery earned a cherished spot in The Times as a one of the top five artisan bakery in Scotland. 🤭
Absolutely thrilled and proud to be featured alongside some of the very best and most talented bakers Scotland has to offer however, such recognition wouldn't be possible without your unwavering support.
As we continue to highlight the beauty of organic ingredients and artisanal precision, know that you’re always a slice of our success.♥️

Wishing all our guests, friends and family a very Happy Christmas. All the best from all of us at Harelaw and Harelaw Cottages, including Sol who started Christmas a bit too early.
We don’t usually do much dead heading here at Harelaw but our old boy Solzie can’t help himself.

Earlier this year we bought a recycled plastic Hedgehog box from TDP and put it in our shed. Recently one of our resident hogs has decided it will be a nice place to sleep, over winter. A lot of bedding has gone in there over the last few nights - maybe it's a tardis! I'm thrilled its been used so quickly.

Big changes ahead for hedgehog conservation! 🦔
The conservation status of the European Hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus) has been updated from Least Concern to Near Threatened in the latest release of the IUCN Red List. Monitoring efforts indicate that their decline may exceed 30% over the past decade, putting the species at serious risk.
“Unfortunately, evidence points towrds a worrying and widespread downward trend (..) There is still a chance to halt the decline of the Western European hedgehog, and we must aim to prevent any further worsening of status,” explained Abi Gazzard, Programme Officer at IUCN SSC Small Mammal Specialist Group member (follow ).
Once abundant across Europe, the West European hedgehog now faces a rapidly shrinking population. Urban development, agricultural expansion and road infrastructure have fragmented the hedgehog’s habitat, while vehicle collisions, the use of pesticides, and poorly managed gardens continue to reduce their numbers.
“This decline will likely come as no surprise to the average person. When hedgehogs come up in conversation, it’s not long before someone says that they just don’t see them anymore,” said Hope Nothhelfer, Communications Officer at the Mammal Society.
We are calling on the public to contribute to hedgehog monitoring efforts by recording sightings through the Mammal Mapper app, and by joining forces with other nature champions through a local mammal groups. Collecting this data will help inform conservation strategies and focus protective measures in critical areas.
Empowering conservationists, students, citizen scientists and nature champions to play a key role in grassroots conservation now and in the future ensures a bright future for mammals.

The scond first at Harelaw is a Stoat family! Stoats are one of my favourite mammals. Some of you will recognise this video as the back of Hoolit Cottage where we have a nest box used by Tree Sparrow. Its very sad for the Tree Sparrows but I have enjoyed watching this little creature. I didn't see any other successful 'hunts' but I saw it climb almost to the top of the Ash tree in the car park and have heard this comotion many times. #stoat #harelawcottages #ecoholiday #visitnorthumberland #greentourism #lovenature
Its been a year of firsts with the wildlife here at Harelaw. We've gone from one nest of House Martins for the last three years to four this year. They have already fledged around twenty young and three of the pairs are on their second brood. More exciting than that though - we had a pair of Swifts here for two whole days - swooping up to potential nest sites in the cottages. Maybe we will have Swifts next year. #housemartins #greentourism #swifts #ecoholiday #natureholiday #harelawcottages #britishbirds #lovenature #lovewildlife

On Friday a couple of cuckoos flew over and landed somewhere on Harelaw. The recording isn't the best but they stayed for about 5 mins. We do have many of its host species here including lots of Dunnocks. Wonder if they were here long enough? #cuckoo #lovenature #greentourism #BiodiversityMatters #visitnorthumberland #harelawcottages
