Today’s featured Secret Hills / New Experience Guided Group Walking Holiday is .

Madeira is an island of fascinating natural beauty and enticing climate. It is a paradise fore walkers and those seeking a relaxing holiday in close proximity to nature. Our solos guided walking holiday showcases the best that the island has to offer.

Madeira rises steeply from the Atlantic Ocean standing, with its small island neighbours, in splendid isolation off the coast of Europe and Africa.

An island of volcanic origin, with a network of levadas, built to carry water from the springs in the north to irrigate the cultivated areas of the south contour along the mountain sides, their banks planted with wild hydrangeas, lilies and agapanthus.

Its mountains are rugged and inspiring often with splendid sea views. Gardens and parks are everywhere planted with all manner of exotic trees, shrubs and blooms

Not for nothing is it called the Garden island or the Pearl of the Atlantic.

A number of walks follow levadas gently down hill. The paths are generally of good quality with some uneven sections and also tunnels. They are a joy to walk along with the constant stream of water bubbling on one side and on the other, ever changing views of deep valleys and hillsides often with the sea in the background.

Madeira is more than just levadas, offering dramatic cliff top walks along zig zag paths above the bubbling sea below and more challenging treks in the central mountain ranges. There is, however, plenty of easy terrain suitable for even the least experienced walker. Some walks, especially those which follow the levadas, do require a head for heights.

We run this holiday in February, June, November. Our next departure is 07/11/2022

Today’s featured Secret Hills / New Experience Guided Group Walking Holiday is Mallorca.

Mallorca really is a delight - the walking is much better than most people realise, the climate is just right – warm, not too hot for good walking, little rain and the hospitality of the locals will make this solos guided walking holiday a joy.

Mallorca’s Serra de Tramuntana mountains are a great walking experience—on this holiday island renowned for it’s sun, sand and sangria, there is an area of peace and tranquillity, where the walking is superb. 90 km long and 15 km wide, the Tramuntana range gives a vast range of walking possibilities. The coast line is also very rugged, and this affords us tremendous sea views as well as mountain scenery. The limestone allows deep gorges and waterfalls, yet there are pine forests as well.

You have a choice of 2 holidays here:

Mallorca’s West coast where you are based in the South West of the island, in Paguera.

Our next departure is 01/10/2022

Mallorca’s Magnificent Mountains and Coast where you are based in the North West of the island, in Port de Soller.

Our next departure is 27/04/2023

Today’s featured Secret Hills / New Experience Guided Group Walking Holiday is Gran Canaria.
Gran Canaria is a beautiful natural environment, nearly half of which is protected, but only by walking can you discover the true delights of the islands and its people.

We are in the middle of the iconic walking area of Gran Canaria. Unlike other UK walking companies we position ourselves in the heart of the mountains – no one hour transport along windy and treacherous road to get to the best walks.

We walk for five days with a day off in the middle.
Along the way, we’ll encounter steep ravines, valleys, imposing rocks and volcanic calderas, amazing cliffs… Incredible places we can see from hiking trails, stopping every now and then to look at all the beautiful scenery. Or we can also see the island by car or public transport, as Gran Canaria has an extensive network of well-kept roads.

Our next departure is 04/03/2023.

Today’s featured Secret Hills / New Experience Guided Group Walking Holiday is Slovenia.
Slovenia has marvellous alpine hill walking with stunning vistas of high snowy peaks, lakes and river valleys.

Our solos guided walking holiday takes you over breathtaking ridges, and into beautiful valleys. Normally five hours walking, we grade the walks as moderate with some short strenuous stretches. An easier shorter option is available on each day.

We base ourselves near Lake Bohinj, the largest of the Slovenian lakes. There are picturesque villages, with farming at the heart of the economy. There are alpine meadows to amble through, and fast flowing rivers, with a number of deep gorges – familiar to limestone alpine scenery.

Each year, this holiday is run in May, June and September. Our next departure is 02nd September – there is still time to book your space!

This week we will feature some of the holidays we offer alongside our partners, Secret Hills Walking Holidays. Short Breaks For Solo Travellers.

Formed by Alan Garner in 2002, Secret Hills specialise in guided walking holidays for singles and solos. They offer guided walking holidays both in the UK and Europe.
We have had the pleasure of working with them since 2008, providing flight inclusive, ATOL protected holidays for their European holidays. Starting with just a few (Slovenia and Madeira) our now partnership extends to 14 holidays.

We take care of the accommodation, flights and airport transfers, and Secret Hills do the rest, marketing and selling the holidays and arranging your day to day holiday itinerary.

They provide an experienced walk leader as a tour guide. They also use the services of expert local guides, to ensure the highest of safety standards, through local knowledge and first aid training. You will receive individual attention throughout your holiday.

We love their moto “we meet as strangers and depart as friends”. Their leaders are all easy-going, genuinely sociable people who want to ensure that you have the best time you can with the rest of the group. They make the weekend fun by engaging with all members of a group, and ensuring that everyone feels part of the group experience.

They really are a fantastic company.

Visit their website where you can find out more about them, the destinations they offer and read their client testimonials (their clients return year after year, it is easy to see why).

🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩Customer review for our centre based holiday in Engelberg, Switzerland with a lovely photo.

Lovely to be looked after so well in the Schweizerhof Hotel, with its spacious rooms and very friendly staff; stunning scenery - we couldn't believe how beautiful it was. Engelberg is very convenient - station and buses very close, Folk Museum and Monastery very interesting to visit, food shops (including one at the station) and post office (also at the station) v close and so it takes not time at all to pick up food for the walk/post postcards etc. Really relaxing.

Customer review for our Mallorca Trek

Service Prior to departure - 5*

Ground Transportation - Everything went well. Our flight was delayed by 2 hours but the taxi was still there waiting and during out stay the always turned up usually a few minutes early so we were never left hanging around.

Baggage transportation - Our bags were at our hotels when we arrived every day.

Average hotel score - 4.5*

Overall holiday score - 5*

We really enjoyed our holiday, having the GPX files really helped when the paths were not always clear to follow.

We have travelled with New Experience at least six times and we have always been very happy with our holidays and the arrangements have been excellent.

🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 Customer review for our Amalfi Coast Trek 👣👣👣👣👣

The contrast of going from Cava (small and quiet) to Amalfi (busier) then back to Agerola (countryside again) and then ending in Positano (bustling again) was really nice. We enjoyed each personality. It was extremely nice to have the baggage transferred so reliably. We have not travelled with this arrangement before and found it to be well worth the money.

🥳👣🥰 Customer review for Via Francigena. These clients did the section from Lucca to Siena.

They have given us some wonderful photos to share!

Service Prior to departure: 4.5* - I had to chase up a couple of minor things during booking/pre-departure but this was probably just me being keen; once highlighted, these were dealt with very swiftly. Very happy with the support and timeliness of ticket/guide arrival.

Ground Transportation - A bit of a mix-up on arrival at Pisa Airport but very helpfully sorted by the New Experience team in UK. Subsequent help in sorting rail tickets to Basel at the end of the holiday after cancellation of our return flight was outstanding.

Baggage transportation - 5* - Excellent service

Hotels - Overall rated 4.5*

Would you book with us again? - Yes, definitely.

Overall holiday rating: 5*

Well organized and a good route with a lovely range of accommodation. It was the best Lucca to Siena VF itinerary that I came across. New Experience’s help when we had 2 flights cancelled on our return trip was truly excellent.

Ground Transportation - All transportation staff were very and punctual

Baggage transportation - Our luggage was always waiting for us when we arrived at our hotels

Hotels - overall rated 4.5* - 5*

Walking - We had never done a walking holiday before. The instructions were detailed and clear, and we only had to use the compass twice (as a double check), and we didn't get lost.

This holiday exceeded our expectations. Moderate to challenging is the right description and we had a great sense of achievement at the end. The organisation ran like clockwork and we will definitely recommend this to other people.

Western Crete has long been a favourite destination for walkers with many returning year after year to savour this very unspoilt part of the island. The region offers spectacular contrasting scenery.

The White Mountains dotted with remote mountain villages rise to over 2400m providing some challenging walks for the experienced.

Radiating from these mountains are numerous gorges running down to the sea, the most renowned being the Samaria Gorge and many lesser known gorges to explore.

Undoubtedly the sea is one of Crete’s main attributes and are enhanced by the Libyan Sea with shades of blue extending from the clearest pale turquoise to deep indigo blue.

It’s a destination where the people are as pleasant as the weather and the delicious locally produced foods (a haven for vegetarians by the way).

UK National Park + AONB feature week - Lastly Newex are lucky enough to have part of this trek on our doorstep; today's featured trek is Offa's D**e.

This is a land bathed in mysterious history. A land, Celtic in origin, of saints and stones. A land where around almost every corner one finds something ancient. Almost every hilltop is clad with the remains of a fort or castle and burial mounds are scattered far and wide. The valley below hides lanes deep and narrow as they wind between hidden settlements whose habitation extends into the past as far as history can record. It’s here, where amongst wood and stream, lie hidden Sacred Places each with a legend to tell. Ancient stone wells carry saintly names such as St. Beuno’s and St. Dyfnog’s and the smallest of churches whose wooden wheels creak to ring a single bell in call to visit the space within where further treasures await discovery.

Extending virtually the whole length of the border between Wales and England, the Offa’s D**e is renowned as the defence King Offa ordered to be constructed in the 8th Century to divide the kingdom of Mercia, England from several smaller kingdoms, later to become Wales. Views are magnificent in all directions as one hill rolls gently onto the next with wonderfully level stretches in between which wind round hilltop forts and castellated mounds. Far below, ancient villages and medieval towns dot the valley floors where many a river forms a winding silvery trail. The path is well signed and easy to follow, but there lies another, intriguing side to this part of the trail; a side which is mysterious, legendary and magical. It’s those exceptional Sacred Places which most walkers simply pass by.

Our trek takes you off the beaten path to discover these Sacred Places, thanks to our local knowledge of this area that we call home.

We also offer the section from Llangollen to Knighton.

UK National Park + AONB feature week - Today we feature the Shropshire Way

Sharing a border with Wales, Shropshire is a quiet and tranquil county, considered one of Great Britain’s last remaining rural idylls. Yet, this was not always the case and its location has shaped its history across the centuries. Ancient feuds with the Celtic princes to the west is evidenced in the numerous castle ruins, each with their own tales to tell.

Cross the rocky crags of the Stiperstones to the summit of the Clee Hills and Wenlock Edge before reaching the magnificent Ironbridge Gorge.

UK National Park + AONB feature week - Llyn Peninsula

From the moment you enter Caernarfon, although it was the English King, Edward 1 who built the impressive castle and walled town, you become submersed into the diverse wealth of our Welsh culture. This small peninsula contains some of the richest history and most stunning landscapes to be found anywhere. Celtic churches dating from the 6thCentury, Prehistoric hill forts, and Neolithic standing stones; all steeped in mythological stories of pilgrimage, ancient traditions and language.

Nature provides flower covered cliff tops, rare migratory birds, basking sharks and dolphins and colourful seasonal contrasts. In addition, panoramic views diversify from the far-off coast of Ireland to the nearby Snowdonia Mountain where Wales’ highest mountain is outlined against the sky.

At ‘lands’ end’ across a treacherous 2 mile stretch of sea lies the mysterious Island of Ynys Enlli – Bardsey Island. Steeped in holy history it is reputed that over 20,000 Saints made pilgrimage to the island to die and be buried. Take a break from walking to explore this unique land.

As you progress the landscape changes as you journey over cliffs, across white sand beaches, through tiny settlements and over purple covered moorland resplendent against the blue sea.

You can do the full 7 day trek or perhaps a short break over a long weekend?
