What are you doing for #GreatBigGreenWeek? One of our members allowed a corner of their garden to grow wild for the summer. The bees and wildlife are LOVING it and the biodiversity has increased.
If you have an outside space, try leaving some of it to grow and see what happens. Nature has a fun way of surprising you!
Happy #NorwichPride everyone!
This year we were so pleased to see Petra make the recent cover of WI Life magazine, with her story of joining the @womensinstitute and finding acceptance and support. #translivesmatter

Happy International Women’s Day 2021 ♥️
We can’t believe it’s been a whole year since we met our Balham WI sisters (as shown with the #eachforequal pose last IWD). We came together for our GTG podcast: Yarns & Threads, and talked about women’s issues, equality, feminism and our love for The WI (National Federation of Women's Institutes). We laughed, we cried and most significantly we hugged... just a matter of days before all our lives changed. We miss hugs.
This year’s International Women’s Day is very different. No marches or physical meetings, but we have our voices, and we have our promises.
The 2021 message for International Womens Day is #choosetochallenge
We raise our hands to show our commitment to choosing to challenge inequality, call out bias, question stereotypes, and help forge an inclusive world.
For those of us fortunate to have a choice, let’s not turn a blind eye to these struggles and stand together in solidarity. From challenge comes change. Who’s with us?! 💪🏼✋🏾✊🏿

Video to GTG’s from Jane Hannah 💕
February is the month of Luuurve! Self-love first and foremost... ♥️
We know how hard it is to find time to focus on yourself and how hard change can be, which is why we are bringing you an exciting opportunity to allow you to do just this!
On Thursday 18th Feb at 7:30 pm, join us for a 45 min session being led by Healthier Happier You mentor Jane Hannah to kick start your journey to a healthier and happier you.
The session requires no preparation other than to come ready to indulge yourself for the duration of it.
During the session, you will be given time to reflect on where you currently feel you are with the basic pillars of health and happiness, then allow your mind to explore how you would feel if you were able to make easy improvements in some of these areas:
•Sleep/rest
•Exercise/movement
•Hydration/nutrition
•Mindfulness/you time
By the end of the 45 minutes you will have received easy and enjoyable tips on how you can introduce new tiny habits which can easily be incorporated into your daily routine so they won't feel like you are turning your life upside down. 🙃
Zoom link will be sent out to members soon! This event will also be open to visitors and WI Wanderers too so please email [email protected] if you'd like to join us 📩
I'm sure you'll all agree this could be just what we all need this lockdown, a bit of TLC for our minds and bodies. Set aside the evening for some you time / girl time, you deserve it 😘

Well hello there 2021! For our first meeting of the year we’ll be channelling our inner Calendar Girls🌻 welcoming Donna and Shân from British Naturism with open arms. They will be introducing us to the wonderful world of naturism in all its naked glory!
We’ll uncover naturism as an interpretation and what the word means to different people, how it affects lives and the various approaches to it. They’ll lay bare outlines and guidance on the laws as well as the support naturists get in the community from authorities.
Donna will provide an insight to what British Naturism do as an organisation and their Women In Naturism (WiN) Campaign.
Shân will also expose the family aspect of naturism, with research on the benefits to children in the naturist environment.
📣PLEASE NOTE: Donna and Shân will be presenting in their 'uniform', so clothing will be optional! Anyone who feels uncomfortable is welcome to attend the meeting with their video off. We won’t spring any surprises by asking you to de-robe at any point so please don’t worry! (If you’re happy in your birthday suit of course you’re welcome to). When sat in front of a monitor, there's not much visible anyway but we fully respect everyone’s choices to their privacy.
You may have also seen Donna on BBC Radio 4 Woman’s hour last week! 🎙Really interesting stuff. We’re super excited for our meeting!
🌼Thursday 21st January at 7:30pm🌼
Zoom details to be sent out to all members soon and those on our visitors list. Also open to WI Wanderers (Facebook group for all WI members)
For everyone else who might like to give the GTG’s a try, and find out a bit more about your local girl gang, please get in touch!

White Ribbon Day 2020
Isn’t it crazy in 2020 we STILL need to increase awareness for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls?
During the first 7 weeks of the national lockdown that began in March, the police received one call relating to domestic abuse every 30 seconds. During lockdown, even more survivors will become vulnerable to domestic abuse and will find it more difficult to escape their abusers.
It’s important to note that domestic abuse does not always include physical violence...
Women’s Aid defines domestic abuse as an incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive, threatening, degrading and violent behaviour, including sexual violence, by a partner or ex-partner.
-These incidents can include coercive control; psychological and/or emotional abuse; physical abuse; sexual abuse; financial abuse; harassment; stalking; and/or online or digital abuse.
Domestic abuse can effect anyone from any background, age or gender. Yes, women can also be abusers, but we are more likely than men to experience multiple incidents of abuse, different types of domestic abuse, and sexual violence particularly, disproportionately to men, because we are women. It is a gendered crime which is deeply rooted in the societal inequality between women and men.
As with many things this year, we need to continue our learning, support and solidarity. As such, The WI has arranged a 'Supporting Survivors' webinar to mark the UN's #16DaysofActivism against gender-based violence starting today.
Nicole Jacobs, Domestic Abuse Commissioner for England and Wales will be speaking at the webinar which takes place on 1 December at 1-2.30pm.
All WI members are welcome to join, register your interest via My WI: http://thewi.org.uk/16dayswebinar
If you are concerned for anyone in your local community call the national helpline directly for more advice.
If you, or anyone else, is at immediate risk of harm, phone the police on 999.
