Tour Spotlight | Hosted Goodnews River Lodge | Freshwater Fly Fishing | Alaska
For years, we have sent anglers to the Stunning Goodnews River Lodge in Alaska due to its fantastic Pacific Salmon fishing. This got us thinking about the logistics of offering guided trips, aswell as our regular trips to Goodnews, which is why we are proud to present that we now offer a range of exclusive Sportquest Holidays hosted trips by one of our experienced hosts.
Opening up our hosted weeks, makes this trip ideal for solo anglers, pairs of friends and even small groups. Our team of hosts are highly experienced as both hosts and fishing guides and are well travelled, taking trips of customers around the world and fishing in a wide array of different environments.
After your day on the water, anglers will return to the traditional tented lodge that sits just meters from the riverbank. There are seven standard tents/cabins. Each cabin is built on a platform and includes a front porch, the perfect spot for a morning coffee as you get ready for your day.
Fishing -
The fishing at Goodnews River Lodge can be conducted in many different ways and will usually depend on what each angler wishes to catch. For those wanting to target big King and Chum Salmon, swinging large flies with double-handed Spey rods is the name of the game. Although single-handed rods will work, the guides at the lodge like nothing more than a guest wanting to swing big flies deep for the kings, as this produces the best results for these hard-fighting fish.
For the smaller Salmon species, like the Sockeye, Pinks, and Silvers, lighter rods like 12ft switch rods and single-handed 10-weight rods, matched with floating lines and smaller flies, are preferred. If you’re fishing in Silver season, we thoroughly recommend trying surface poppers, as watching these wild fish chase and hit your fly has to be one of the most exciting forms of fly fishing.
Although the lodge uses boats to run up and down the river to the various fishing spots, the fishing is mainly conducted by wadding on foot.
