The 2nd of jan rolls round quick. Almost had a month off (obs haven't but it seems ages since ive spent proper time in the studio). Im just tidying, sorting and planning the new year out.
Ive revisites some pieces to adapt, refire and develop, as well as a lustr firing coming soon. But first. The studio is having a well. Needed spring clean.

And so the end of 2024 drawers to an end. Celebrating 2 and a bit years being soley self employed as a potter (with no conventional teaching or working int tescos - which would be fine if i needed to).
Im still very much in disbelief about being able to pay my way in life, and very humbled at the support of people who adopt my children, come to workshops, galleries that support as well as exhibitions and shows too, people who have talked, lolled, chatted, loved (and disliked my work!)

With a few galleries taking a chance on me, lots of shows lots of support from varying people for the success of TOASTED Ceramic Fair including but not exclusive to , , .c.pottery Rachel, Chris, Anne, Trish, as well as and (as noone can do things by themselves) and i am sure more that are not mentioned.

With such lovely events as (biased ;)) .co.uk

As well as galleries of Create Space,

And big thanks for the support from and for their continued support. And lots of friends for their comradery, lols, drinks, chats, making, games, wine and friendship. Genuinely the BEST move i ever did was to leave education and i am eternally grateful to leave such a challenging and (felt) undervalued and underappricated system.

I leave 2024 a good year, but welcome challenges in 2025 and i can not wait.

Sadly my degree of Decorative Arts is no longer an option at my old University and the equipment has had to find a new home, @andrew.harris_art, a most fantastic human who I've always had a lot of respect for, and someone who was imperative to my success in my further education (a 1st (hons) if you didn't know - not that anyone has asked since graduating). Andy was key and selfless in sharing his Knowledge and expectise and was someone whom I learnt the most from when studying. Technicians are the key to all education and learnt lots technically with clay, how to use a kiln, trouble shooting challenges as well as kindness to go above and beyond, even when I was asking lots of annoying and continuous questions, and it's all these which I've taken with me since education (follow him @andrew.harris_art) Andy helped arrange a mega ceramic and glass kiln to come live at the @longeatonartroom Thank you @ntuart for the kilns, they will be used and loved for a small chairty community art studio based in Long Eaton. Also thank you to the legends at @corbykilnsuk for delivering them to the Art Room (yet another amazing company who sold me my first kiln when I began in 2009 and was a pleasure to see Bob again). The Olympic theme tune sound appropriate to this video. There's been a lot of work to enable this to happen and we are extremely grateful for this to come to us. It will support ceramic classes and hires for resident/visiting potters and ceramic studnets, children classes and the community. So my first @potfest.co.uk isn't till August in Haughley and again In October at the pens in Penrith. I've had plenty of time to think about the theme for the competition which is 'Hybrid' and always wanted to make something a little daring. Any guesses who he's gonna be? Loving making this but feel it'll be a more hybrid than prehaps my standard work will have.... Rather excited for him. But you'll see more about him later in the year I am sure...hes gonna be a big'en @northernpottersassociationse @longeatonartroom @artsderbyshire @craftpotters
