The Stanton Fishing Club is a long standing club in Ilkeston, Derbyshire. The club has lots places to fish including a canal (a stretch of the disused Nutbrook Canal) and several large ponds. Fish species include Roach, Perch, Pike, Bream, Carp, and may others. Cast out and let us know what you catch! To fish any of our waters, you must be a member. Membership is gained by purchasing a Members Book from Walkers of Trowell. It costs Β£16 for 12 months. This is great value fishing!!!

The books are now available from Stapleford Angling, Mill Tackle and Nathan’s of Nottingham. They will be in Eastwood Angling in the next couple of days. Until May 1st they are only available to current members, who must have their old book to renew for this year. From May 1st a limited number of books will be available on a first come first served basis. You can still get books from Roger on the car park most mornings.

14/03/2024

The 2024/25 books are now available to buy. They won’t be in the tackle shops until May 1st.
Because we have to restrict how many members we have books will only be available to current members on production of their old book. This will also be cash only. Dave Harris will be on the car park between 11 and 2 pm most days.
On May 1st we will review the numbers and possibly make membership available to new members.

Following the 2024 AGM the committee would like to announce the changes we have made and the reasons behind them.
MEMBERSHIP PRICING
We have always tried to keep the cost as low as possible and not increased the price year on year, however the price of a membership will rise to Β£50 full, Β£30 concession and remain at Β£15 for juniors.
There are 4 reasons for this,
1 – We have always tried to keep the cost as low as possible and not increased the price every year.
2 – Our insurance is set to rise exponentially this year due to an ongoing claim and we are now required to have at least 10 million pounds of liability cover.
3 – In the past we have benefited from paying a peppercorn rent. This is set to change as from April this year and we are facing a very large increase.
4 – This year we are going to have to replace the mower as our current mower is on its last legs.
We would also like to make it clear that the committee is run entirely by volunteers. All funds are put back into the club in the form of stocking, maintenance and general improvements. All income is re invested for the benefit of the members.
HOOK SIZE
Other than when predator fishing, the maximum size of hook will be 10.
The reason for this is,
1 – To protect the stock from damage, we have seen an increase in small carp with severely damaged mouths due to hook damage. The average size of stock in our waters does not warrant larger hooks. Barbed hooks are already banned but we continue to find them on rigs caught in trees and on the ropes.
USE OF POLE AND A SECOND LINE
When fishing with a pole no other lines can be fished, i.e. using pole and feeder/float rod.
This is due to fish welfare and the fact that we have had to recover so many rods that have been pulled in because the angler has been using a pole. On several occasions the rods have been recovered with a fish still attached to the line.

Due to the high winds and the risk from falling trees the waters are now closed. This will be reviewed on Saturday morning when we can assess the damage and any further risks.
