'O ye of little faith'! First Press trip of the year was for a journalist for the Spanish speaking and Latin American audience with a potential reach of over 4m. The 'Nottingham in a Nutshell' whistle-stop tour had her remarking that she 'loved Nottingham', it is a 'beautiful city' and had a 'real spirit about it'. Really refreshing to hear a seasoned travel journo say such things about this great City 🎯

in 1533, Henry VIII secretly married Anne Boleyn while still officially wed to Catherine of Aragon.

To legitimise the union, Henry had Archbishop Thomas Cranmer declare his first marriage invalid in May 1533, clearing the way for Anne’s coronation.

This bold move cemented England’s break from Rome, leading to the creation of the Church of England - changing the country’s religious landscape forever.

Magnificent. Battle of the giants.

The rivalry between Brian Clough and Don Revie is one of the most legendary feuds in English football history. But nothing captured the animosity, tension, and sheer personality clash between the two managers quite like their infamous TV interview.

In 1974, just after Clough's brief, controversial stint as Leeds United manager ended in sacking after only 44 days, the two footballing giants sat down for a televised confrontation. What followed was a remarkable exchange that offered an unfiltered look into the minds of these two iconic figures—and their deep disdain for each other.

Don Revie, the architect of Leeds United’s success in the 1960s and early 1970s, represented meticulous planning and defensive strength. His Leeds team dominated English football with ruthless efficiency, earning silverware and respect, but also criticism for their uncompromising style. Revie appeared calm and composed during the interview, defending the legacy of the club he had built from the ground up.

Brian Clough, on the other hand, was bold, brash, and unapologetically outspoken. Known for his revolutionary attacking philosophy, he pulled no punches as he openly criticised Revie’s Leeds team, calling their methods “dirty” and accusing them of “cheating their way to success.” Clough’s fiery demeanor contrasted sharply with Revie’s measured responses, making for gripping television.

The interview exposed the stark differences between the two men: Clough’s charisma and risk-taking vs. Revie’s calculated precision and loyalty to his players. It wasn’t just about football tactics—it was personal. Clough’s frustration at being rejected by Leeds players and fans, combined with Revie’s subtle jabs, created a war of words that still resonates with football fans today.

While the interview didn’t resolve their differences, it immortalised their rivalry. Clough would go on to achieve legendary status with Nottingham Forest, winning two European Cups, while Revie left Leeds to manage England, with mixed success.

The clash of these two titans symbolised more than just a feud—it represented two opposing philosophies in football. And thanks to that unforgettable TV interview, we got to see the raw emotion behind one of football’s greatest rivalries.

Today spooky tales of witches, charms and black cats are treated as harmless fun. But in the 16th and 17th centuries, at the height of the witch-hunts that swept across Europe, more than 5,000 people in Britain, mainly women, are estimated to have been hung or burned at the stake for alleged witchcraft.

Here, we take a look at the gruesome witch-hunts of 16th and 17th century Britain: https://www.discoverbritain.com/history/historic-events/witch-hunts-of-17th-century-britain/
