Here are the top 10 things to do on Anafi

Explore Chora: Anafi's main town, Chora, is a traditional Cycladic village with white-washed houses, narrow alleys, and a relaxed atmosphere. Take a leisurely stroll through its charming streets and visit the town square.

ISLAND OF THE WEEK - ANAFI

How to get there

Anafi does not have an airport with the nearest being on Santorini. There are direct flights into Santorini from London Heathrow, London City, Bristol, London Gatwick, Luton, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Leeds Bradford, Stansted, Newcastle and East Midlands.

Please be aware that ferry timings for Anafi are notoriously unfriendly. This means either late evening or early morning departures. Also the ferry timetables generally dont come out until a month or two beforehand.

Be prepared to spend your first and last evening on Santorini dependent on your flights times.

ISLAND OF THE WEEK - ANAFI

Anafi is possibly the most unspoilt Greek island, mainly due to its lack of accessibility. Despite the island lying only 90 minutes due east of Santorini, the generally unsavoury ferry timings will put most people off.

Those who do make the effort however, are richly rewarded. Anafi does not offer fancy hotel accommodation, excursions by coach or discos and nightclubs.

The port of Agios Nikolaos has a couple of tavernas and a cafe and is backed by cliffs. The local bus will take you the 4 km to the hilltop Chora with its tavernas, bakery, small shops and post office.

The best beaches are all to be found on the southern coast of the island and are very impressive. There is a town beach, near the port, which is protected by the cliffs and these lead to sandy beaches at Klissidi, Roukounas, Monastiri and Katalimatsa.

There is a small excursion boat which runs between Agios Nikolaos and Monastiri, from where you can walk to the monasteries of Zoodogou Pyrgi and Panagia Kalamiotissa.

Go now before the tourists hit as they surely will once they find out about the hidden gem that is Anafi.

Please be aware that due to ferry and flight timings, a stay overnight in Santorini may be required in either direction.

DESTINATION OF THE WEEK - ANGUILLA

The Caribbean is famous for its stunning white sand beaches and turquoise waters but many of the islands have become very commercial.

Anguilla stands out as it remains very uncommercial, with just a handful of top end properties dotted around the island and an interesting ban on jetskis!

Instead people come to relax and take part in the highly rated gastronomy on the island. Upmarket restaurants serve dishes such as lobster tempura or grilled quail whilst the roadside street food stalls offer traditional dishes such as jerk chicken and curried goat.

​Back to the beaches after being tempted with these flavours and you have 33 beaches to choose from!
