Good morning from Nottinghamshire 💚

Back in 2023, a striking heron sculpture took flight along Nottingham’s canal, crafted from old Raleigh bike parts, a shopping trolley, and reclaimed canal rubbish. Now in 2025, it’s still standing strong—a symbol of creativity, sustainability, and community spirit!

This incredible piece by Nottinghamshire artist Michelle Reader isn’t just art—it’s a tribute to the wildlife that calls our waterways home. Nestled in the transformed Wilford Street space, surrounded by wildflowers and edible planting, the heron continues to inspire locals and visitors alike.

Curated by Green Hustle, a community interest company dedicated to sustainability and creative regeneration, this project showcases the power of collaboration. Working alongside the Canal & River Trust, Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, and local volunteers, Green Hustle helped breathe new life into this once-neglected space.

💪Today is International Tug of War Day!

Did you know that Nottingham is set to host the 2025 European Outdoor Tug of War Championships between 4 – 7 September? 2025 European Tug of War Championships

The tournament will be open to men’s teams, women’s teams, and mixed teams who will be competing for gold, silver and bronze medals in different weight categories,
a clash of sheer power between the two teams.

The event is expected to draw around 1,500 – 2,000 participants from at least 20 countries!

Good morning from Nottinghamshire 💚😁

We took a windy venture down to the iconic Wilford Suspension Bridge last Saturday, adorned with countless padlocks, each representing moments of love and loss. 🗝️ A beautiful reminder of the stories that connect us all.

Our walk continued through the serene Nottingham War Memorial Gardens, a peaceful spot for reflection and remembrance. We couldn’t miss the Queen Victoria statue, which was moved in 1952 from its original spot at the corner of Angel Row and Long Row to its current home near the Victoria Embankment, refurbished recently through lottery funding.

Reagrdless of the lack of sun, a stroll along the Trent always makes you feel a little brighter!

The iconic Council House, standing proud in the heart of Nottingham, with an illuminated lamppost glowing in front of the famous clock tower. 🏛️💡

Did you know? The Old Market Square is home to eight stunning Art Deco street lamps, installed in 1929 alongside the Council House when the square was redesigned. It’s believed they were designed by the building’s architect, T. Cecil Howitt, and today, they’re all Grade II listed! A true piece of Nottingham’s history.
