LATE SPRING AT KEW GARDENS AND KEW PALACE
Saturday 25th May
Whatever the season, the Gardens at Kew are a treat for the senses and brimming with botanic treasures. In late May the display of flowers on the laburnum pergola is spectacular. Its golden yellow and sweet-scented flowers appear in chains up to 25cm long that frame the colonnade in a bright and fragrant array. Designed to complement Kew Palace, the Queen’s Garden is dedicated exclusively to the plants and architectural styles of the 17th century. Kew Palace is the smallest and most intimate of the royal palaces. It was purchased by George III in 1781 to accommodate his expanding family, subsequently becoming a more permanent home for the Royal Family. Queen Charlotte died here in 1818 and having lain untouched since her death, the Royal Kitchens at Kew can now be explored for the very first time. Your visit will open the door to a lost space and let you discover more about life in the historic times, the servants who worked in the kitchens and Georgian culinary life. Take advantage of an optional ticket to ride on the Land Train for a guided tour of the Gardens for just £5.00 extra. There a wide variety of cafes and restaurants available for refreshments and the gift shop has a great range gifts, plants and books to purchase.

A DAY in the ANCIENT CITY OF YORK
Easter Monday 1st April 2024
York is a walled city in northeast England that was founded by the ancient Romans. Its huge 13th century Gothic cathedral, York Minster has medieval stained glass and 2 functioning bell towers. The City Walls form a walkway on both sides of the river Ouse. The Shambles are one of York’s oldest and most fun streets check out the Shambles Market, which is best explored early in the day. The Jorvik Viking Centre gives you the chance to step back to that time and explore the city as it was under Norwegian rule. The National Railway Museum is amazingly popular as the mighty machines
on display have very broad appeal. Take a close look at about 100 engines, including several working steam trains. Bettys is almost certainly the most famous tea rooms in York but there are lots of cafes and restaurants for lunch and afternoon tea which are even better than Bettys. Parliament Street with its wide square is lined with high street stores and cafés, including Marks & Spencer.
