It’s so nice when customers take the time to let you know they had a good time

Hi Chris

I wanted to let you know what a fantastic time we had on our recent trip to Lefkada.

Thank you for all your help. It was great having all the paperwork in one place, thank you.

About next year, I don't know whether you remember me saying about visiting about 5 or 6 islands. We'll decide where we would like to visit and let you know, as I know that you won't be getting next year's prices till October.

Thank you again,

Kind regards,

Patricia

ISLAND OF THE WEEK - HALKI

As with many of the smaller islands, Halki (sometimes spelt with a C at the beginning) is not the easiest to get to despite its proximity to Rhodes. Ferry schedules are not the best (although improving) and the smaller boats that go to Halki tend to go from Kamiros Skala rather than from Rhodes Town.

However, having said this, this island must simply be one of the best excuses to go on a ferry ever.

Its another UNESCO site, which means that large tourist developments have been discourages. That does not mean tourists are not welcome.

Those who make the visit are wowed by Halki. With some of the cleanest beaches in Greece (Pondamos is the only sand beach on the island), the tiny harbour surrounded by tavernas and cafe's, no nightclubs, virtually no traffic (the island only has two taxis), visitors are able to walk, swim, read and just enjoy the experience of the traditional way of life on a Greek island.

For those of you who can't sit still all of the time, there is the old ruins of the Kastro and the Panormitis Monastery to visit.

Just throw your gear in the case and get moving before others discover Halki!

Please be aware that due to flight and ferry timings, a stay overnight in Rhodes may be required in either direction.

ISLAND OF THE WEEK - FOURNI - HOW TO GET THERE

There is no airport on Fourni so we recommend flying into Samos and transferring by boat from there. Samos has direct flights from London Gatwick.

Alternatively, ferries on the Piraeus to Samos route call in at Fourni. These ferries are not necessarily timed to match up with flights and so we will advise on routings and timings at the time of booking.

ISLAND OF THE WEEK - FOURNI

Fourni will take you back to the feel of how a Greek island used to be in the 1980's. Only 31 sq km in total, it is a hilly island between Samos and Ikaria.

The hilly landscape and remote location gives credibility to the stories that the island was once the haunt of pirates in days gone by.

With an attractive, authentic traditional village port and remote bays and coves reached by minibus and water taxis in the summer, the island has the largest fishing fleet in the whole Aegean Sea, meaning seafood is high up on the menus in the small selection of tavernas.

Definitely an island where the tourists are left to their own devices, it's an opportunity to truly let the batteries recharge.

Please be aware that due to ferry and flight timings, a stay overnight in Samos may be required in either direction.

Visit Panagia Church: Perched on a hill above Chora, the Church of Panagia offers breathtaking views of the village and the surrounding sea. It's a bit of a hike to reach the church, but the sunset views are worth it.

Discover Kastro: Within Chora, explore Kastro, the medieval part of the village with its traditional fortified houses. This area provides a glimpse into the island's history and is a great spot for photography.

Relax at Agali Beach: Agali Beach is a beautiful sandy beach on Folegandros, with crystal-clear waters and a relaxed atmosphere. It's easily accessible and offers a few tavernas for a meal or a refreshing drink.

Swim at Katergo Beach: Katergo is one of the most famous beaches on Folegandros, known for its pristine waters and secluded location. You can reach it by boat from Karavostasis or hike from Livadi Beach. Bring your own supplies, as there are no facilities here.

Take a Boat Tour: Explore the coastline of Folegandros with a boat tour. You'll visit hidden coves, sea caves, and other beaches that are otherwise difficult to reach.

Dine in Chora's Squares: Chora's central squares come alive in the evenings, with numerous tavernas and cafes offering traditional Greek cuisine. Enjoy a leisurely dinner under the stars, and try local specialties like matsata (handmade pasta).

Visit Livadi Beach: Livadi is another lovely beach on the island, known for its relaxed vibe and shallow waters.

Explore Local Art and Crafts: Folegandros has a small but vibrant art scene. Visit local shops in Chora to find unique souvenirs, handmade jewelry, and traditional crafts.

ISLAND OF THE WEEK - FOLEGANDROS - HOW TO GET THERE

Folegandros doesn't have an airport so we recommend you fly into Santorini and transfer by ferry from there. There are direct flights into Santorini from London Heathrow, London City, Bristol, London Gatwick, Luton, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Leeds Bradford, Stansted, Newcastle and East Midlands.

Another alternative is to fly into Athens and take the ferry from there. Athens Airport has direct flights from London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Birmingham, Luton, Edinburgh, Bristol, Manchester, Newcastle and Stansted.

There are usually at least daily ferries from both Santorini and Athens but an overnight stay in either direction may be needed.

ISLAND OF THE WEEK - FOLEGANDROS

Folegandros' rugged landscape is something of natural beauty. High cliffs that fall into the Aegean Sea, a dazzling white Chora overlooked by a monastery - it is what you would describe if asked your thoughts of what a Greek island should be like.

Known as the island of peace, it's tranquil way of life makes the island suit that name very well. Only 8 miles long and 3 miles wide, it is one of the smaller islands.

Karovastasi, the island's port is a low key resort, with typically Cycladic accommodation in the form of whitewashed houses and blue shutters, framed by wandering bougainvillea. There are a few boutique properties and a 5 star hotel here along with a scattering of tavernas and a bakery.

The stunning medieval Chora, perched 650ft above sea level is closed to motor traffic and has most of the accommodation on the island. With it's three squares, all connected, filled with tavernas, bars and shops it is a fascinating place to unwind with one of the island's traditional dishes, Mastsata, a home made pasta.

There is a local bus service which runs around the island and takes in the best beaches.

Please be aware that due to ferry and flight timings, a stay overnight in Athens or Santorini may be required in either direction.

ISLAND OF THE WEEK - EVIA

One of the closest islands to Athens, Evia remains one of the most unspoilt and unknown partly because of its size (it is the second largest Greek island).

At its southern tip, it is just a short distance from Andros and Kea but sadly, there is no ferry connection.

The people that do know about it are the Athenians and because they can drive to Evia, it gets popular in the summer.

It’s size also means there is something for everyone with wonderful beaches, inland is mountainous with rivers, streams and forests, a large city and the most popular spa in Greece in Edipsos where hot water flows from the rocks and crevices into the sea and pools of many hotels.

The statistics speak for themselves – with an area of 3,580 sq km, 48km of coastline and a population of 220,000 it’s a big place. But with few tourists, its an island that gives you an opportunity to explore where not many have gone before you and it is certainly worth the effort.

Donoussa doesn't have an airport so we recommend flying to Naxos via Athens and then transferring by ferry.

ISLAND OF THE WEEK - DONOUSSA

Donoussa is one of the Little Cyclades, a small group of islands off the south coast of Naxos. As one of the smallest inhabited islands, what it lacks in population it makes up for in sheer beauty and generosity from the residents.

Still untouched by mass tourism, the island has managed to stay off the radar. Instead of organised and crowded beaches, you will find unspoilt beaches with crystal clear water, which will invite you to swim all day long.

Everything else revolves around the port area, Agios Stavros, where you will find some tavernas, shops, bakeries etc.

Please be aware that due to ferry and flight timings, a stay overnight in Athens, Mykonos, Santorini or Naxos may be required in either direction.
