Hotpod yoga launched in London in Jan 2013, and the franchise came to Notts in Sept 2014. Hotpod yoga is the first business to develop portable hot yoga studios. Where did it come from? Nick and Max (Hotpod founders) both came to yoga with a certain degree of skepticism, and the sort of preconceptions sadly held by so many: of a rather daunting activity dominated by mysticism, concerned largely wi

th chanting and tying yourself in knots. Thankfully, on stumbling across a great studio and some wonderful teachers they realised this wasn't the case. Instead they both found something that had a big impact on their lives. At first they appreciated increased flexibility and the sense of exertion – enjoying the burn of the muscles and a good sweat. But soon they began to see more. Some clarity of mind, some shifting of anxiety and a genuine and general feeling of calm. In short, they felt it made them happier, better people. That's pretty big. This experience is at the core of what we want to share. What's our mission? We understand that people remain a little afraid of yoga. Accessibility on all fronts is our response. There's no bad reason to begin yoga. If your objective is a six-pack or bendy hamstrings then so be it. The practice may develop into something more profound, or remain wholly physical. Either way, it’s a positive step towards greater wellbeing and we’re happy to pro-vide that, without judgement. What to expect? Stepping away from the outside world, from mobile phones, emails and the pace of every-day life, Hotpod classes have the specific aim of working the body and calming the mind in equal measure. Traditional postures are set up in our own sequences. Classes are dynamic and sweaty but equally a chance for calm - perfect tunes set the tone and lovely smells complete the tranquil atmosphere. Don’t expect chanting, don’t expect elitism - this is down-to-earth and fun but serious in its impact. Our expert teachers will get the heart pounding, get the sweat beading and work your whole body, right from the core.

We've listened to feedback that some people thought it was a nap in the pod and we're renaming our Sleep Sessions to Rest & Restore. Still the same wonderful, relaxing and rejuvenating class (if you've been, you'll know what we're talking about), but more focus on the importance of rest. If you've got a class booked, no need to do anything. If you haven't tried the class yet, then we don't think you will need much of a nudge to turn inwards on this first evening of winter hours, but if you do, take a look at Rest & Restore. Turning cold grey gloom into a warm purpley haze.

Rest & Restore in the City with Kully on Tuesdays at 8:30pm, in West Bridgford with Liv at 8pm on Fridays, and with James on Sundays at 11:00 am.

So pleased to introduce you to Seyna who you can find in the West Bridgford studio on Tuesday evenings from tomorrow. Seyna is our resident Frenchie, from Aurillac in the Auvergne region of France - ask her about the umbrellas! ☂️She came to Nottingham in 2018 as an au pair, having studied hospitality and sales but wanting to become fluent in English. Yoga is her absolute passion and when she isn't in Nottingham she loves Barcelona, and dreams of Hawaii! She can't wait to share her love of yoga with you in the pod xx

It’s Mental Health Awareness Week and the 2024 focus theme is *Movement: Moving more for our mental health’*. We are so here for the uplifting, mood-boosting impact of moving your body in the magical space of the pod.

A study by researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital in the US, found that regular hot yoga classes are an effective treatment for symptoms of depression. The study showed that 44 per cent of adults who participated in at least two hot yoga classes per week had seen such a dramatic improvement in symptoms that they were no longer classed as clinically depressed.

The barre in the background is a bit of a giveaway, Pree is a graduate dance artist from De Montfort University and trained in Astanga and Vinyasa yoga, so expect a strong and dynamic range of movements on the mat. So lovely to welcome back OG teacher, Sarah Wood 💜 who will be covering for Gemma Louella (off to Eurovision no less!) this Thursday in West Bridgford. I am sure our long time pod crew will whoop with delight to see her, and for those who are meeting Sarah for the first time, here is a little introduction xx

🟪Where were you born?
Stamford, although I was only there for about a year and always count Cambridgeshire as where I was brought up.

🟪Favourite Place on Earth
So far Ilha Grande in Brazil; although sun, sea and sand anywhere and I'm pretty happy.

🟪Why Yoga?
I'd dipped in and out of yoga for years, but really deepened my practice because of the long hours I was working. It made me take time out for me with no distractions, no matter what was going on it allowed me to listen to how my body was feeling and calm my mind down from the craziness of work and refocused me

🟪Anything Else
If I'm not on a mat, you will probably find me walking the dog, at the gym or in the pool. I'm not great at sitting still for any length of time!

The 6 most common sleep positions are: back, side, fetal, log, starfish, freefall... and then a whole bunch of variations within those depending on where you put your arms! There is no absolute best position for good quality sleep as there are so many variable factors in the mix, but as a general rule if you are getting to sleep and staying asleep, you are onto a winner 💜
