It’s that time of year when we do extensive maintenance on our vessels, both scheduled, and upgrades.

In this picture, we have Morning Star’s D2-55 out to allow replacement of the sail drive diaphragm. This is not normally where the engine resides!

Well done team.

After waiting on a favourable weather window to get to us, we are delighted to lift the last leisure boat ashore for winter storage today. The final two commercial vessels are due to arrive next week for lift out, it’s always a relief to get well over 200 boats ashore in such a short time frame!
A special thanks to Phil and Ali for their hard work, early starts, and late finishes during this busy time.

I’d just like to say a massive thanks to the all the OYC team. That’s our last charter done and dusted.

The yachts will soon be out on the hard at Creran Marine for a winter of maintenance and upgrades.

We’d also like to thank all our amazing clients who looked after the yachts so well this season.

Below is the last review of the season.

“From the moment we arrived at the North Pier at Oban, we were very well looked after by Olly and his team at Oban Yacht Charters. They provided a very personal service and met all of our needs. On arrival the Yacht looked immaculate. Her decks were pristine, sails carefully stowed and below was equally sparkling, with the galley being especially clean. The walk-through of the Yacht's inventory, with a focus on safety and emergency equipment, covered many enhancements that made life afloat easier for all. The charts were comprehensive and the chart table/navigation station was well laid out, with space to enable refresher training on the move. The electric outboard was very efficient and had a long battery life. Very quickly I realised we had the ideal Yacht for cruising and developing skills, while holidaying in the waters off north west Scotland. Once at sea the Yacht sailed well, and the miles rolled gracefully by and we enjoyed the sheer beauty of the area. In short a great service, tuned to our needs, that delivered a beautiful Yacht ready to go in a most glorious part of Scotland. “

A great review from a client who did not have the kindest weather during their trip on Iota of Ashton.

“We've had a truly wonderful experience with the Oban Yacht Charters and their S/Y "Iota of Ashton" (Beneteau Oceanis 411, year of build 2002, very well renovated) from 17 till 23 August, 2024. The team of Oban Yacht Charters is absolutely professional and very responsive, they've demonstrated superb client-oriented approach in every aspect of our interactions (including assistance with a contact for car transfer from Glasgow to Oban and back; handing over to us and accepting back the boat; keeping us aware of the expected weather conditions and so on). What is probably even more valuable - they keep their fleet in perfect condition, which is truly essential in sailing within the waters of Western Scotland. We've encountered some nasty weather, so having a firmly reliable boat was extremely important. Highly recommend both the Company and the boat. Special thanks and our kindest regards to Oliver for overall management and Ewan for tech support, but it is absolutely clear that there are other people involved, so our gratitude extends over to them as well.”

Hopefully when they visit again Scotland will be its best.

They say when life throws you lemons make lemonade. The weather has been sub optimal. Due to unseasonal weather Morning Star changed plans and is utilising the Crinan Canal to get back north.

Even with poor weather there are adventures to be had.

"Excellent service and excellent boat in the perfect state looking as new. Everything on board that you need: all comfort inside, even Wifi in most remote areas, perfect Navigation plotters, the motor in perfect state, electrical dinghy propeller, good sailing in perfect safety and all material on board required for longer trips on the open sea. We had good contacts with Oliver from Oban Charters, both while choosing a boat, as in the months before while preparing our trip with our skipper and even during our trip we could ask for support and advice if required.
Both for our charter as for our skipper, We couldn’t have found better in Western Scotland for our fabulous trip to St Kilda and Canna. Both the inner and outer Hebrides are a paradise for sailors, and far more comfortable and sunny than you would expect. It was an unforgettable experience. Thanks.

Recently, some of our clients had a great trip on Morning Star despite the inclement weather. They were glad of the heating which is not normally required in July!

A great review for Iota of Ashton, which joined the fleet this season. The conditions were less Mediterranean and more Scottish but the crew still had a fabulous time. They came back singing the praises of The Boathouse Restaurant Isle of Gigha- definitely one to go to by the sounds of it.

“Excellent week on Iota of Ashton sailing the Argyll coast from Oban to Gigha and back. Iota was perfect for our crew of 5. She was in great condition and everything in good working order. Good briefing and advice from the OYC team. Lots of wind, lots of tide! and great sailing, scenery and wildlife. Also a very close-up fly over by an RAF Typhoon! An exciting and very enjoyable week.
