If you’ve ever wondered what this castle ruin is called…now you know! 🏰

Innes Chonnel Castle, also known as Ardchonnel Castle, Loch Awe. 💛🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿💙

The castle was originally a stronghold of Clan Campbell and has a rich history dating back to the 11th century.

The castle was the seat of Sir Cailean Mór (Sir Colin Campbell), who was killed in 1296. His son, Sir Neil Campbell, fought for Robert the Bruce at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314. The Campbells abandoned the castle as their residence in the 15th century, but it continued to be used as a prison.

Today, the castle remains a significant historical site, though it is privately owned by the Argyll family and not open to the public.

🌟Argyll Hope Spot Retrospective Exhibition🌟

Exciting news! We are delighted to be hosting an exhibition looking back on 4 years of the Argyll Hope Spot Snorkelling Artist Residency.

A total of 37 artists and communicators have participated as residents or tutors across 5 residencies to date. Their work ranges hugely in medium and feeling. Drawings, paintings, sculpture, sound works and animations make space for a wider range of people to feel a deeper connection to life underwater in the seas of Argyll and beyond.

The exhibition will show work from both local and international artists, asking (and answering) the question, what happens after the residency?

There will be a particular focus on work that relates to the idea of artists as change-makers. All work will all be marine related.

🐦🌿 Keeping our little visitors happy! 🌿🐿️

At this time of year, one of our priorities at Melfort Village is making sure our bird and squirrel feeders are well stocked! Watching the red squirrels scurry about and hearing the morning chorus of birdsong makes our village feel even more magical.

From chirping robins to cheeky chaffinches - and, of course, our playful red squirrels - it’s a joy to see nature thrive right on our doorstep. So, if you’re staying with us, take a moment to enjoy the sights and sounds of our feathered (and furry!) friends. 🌰 🥜
